Has American Culture Ruined You?
dot-matrix:
I agree with Janice, I don't view my Americanisms as being ruined. It's just part and parcel of who I am. I AM and American and proud of it.... I do not support our current administration I NEVER did, NEVER voted for the man....but an apparent majority of my fellow Americans did, so I deal. I don't see how you can live your entire life here and not be a little American unless of course you are lying to yourself or you want to be something else so badly you affect another culture. Besides this particular quiz is so off base. I don't think the jokers who made this one have the vaguest ideal what a "Real American" is. They're obviously look at stereotypes.
If I slowed down anymore I would not be moving, I'm the most laid back person I know, I refuse to participate in the rat race which is why I got out of the PD's office and avoided major firms. As far as consumer goods go, I only buy what I need or really want and can afford to pay cash for. If I can't afford it, it goes on our wish list.....like that log home we'd like to build some day...::sigh::...we never get those things on the wish list but you've got to have dreams.
You've Been a Little Ruined by American Culture
Whether you live in the US or not, deep down you're a little American.
And there's nothing wrong with loving American culture, but it may have negative effects on your life.
Slow down and enjoy what you have. Reconnect with life's simple pleasures.
You don't need to be in a consumerist rat race. Life's too short to overwork yourself!

You Have Not Been Ruined by American Culture
You're nothing like the typical American. In fact, you may not be American at all.
You have a broad view of the world, and you're very well informed.
And while you certainly have been influenced by American culture (who hasn't?), it's not your primary influence.
You take a more global philosophy with your politics, taste, and life. And you're always expanding and revising what you believe.

I will take this test, and hope it is just given in fun, but i find the rhetoric very insulting. I think we should be proud to be American. We dont have to be proud of our present administration, or all the things that America has done. But I for one am not ready to say I may have been contaminated by America...that I find highly insulting..

Sadly enough the American culture is not very well viewed in most countries. In fact, the rest of the world sees United States as a culture-less country. In Spain, all you see and hear about the US are clothing brands, movie stars, Coca-cola, McDonalds, Burger King, rock bands, war and George Bush. About a month ago I went to a party that was supposed to be for the promotion of the american culture in Spain. Besides the flag, everything else was corporate stuff. The whole room was decorated with logos from different companies, including McDonalds and American Express. Then all the food served consisted of tex-mex food that the spaniards there indentified as mexican food; cookies, soft drinks, mozarella sticks, doritos, chips, french fries from McDonalds, etc.
If you ask a Spaniards if she/he knows what is the typical american cuisine, she/he will respond hamburgers, french fries and Coke. I have explained my friends that american people actually eat real food, but they don't believe me.
