The two Jack 'o Lanterns light up with an orange light inside.  I generally like orange pumpkins, but at night, these black ones are harder to seee, so you almost only see the bright orange glowing faces.

Chuck, congrats on the diet success!  But I think you can stop now.

I'm glad you all liked the Halloween decorations!  As for the diet.....I should be that skinny! 

Sophia, yes, Halloween is on 10/31, but here in America, people start decorating and preparing early on.  In fact, one of the cable tv networks here starts a series called "The 31 Days of Halloween" where they'll premier scary shows and horror movies every day until Halloween.


Today's travel destination:

Marvao, Alentjo, Portugal.

One of Portugal's most charming castle towns, with a population of just 300, hilltop Marvao is intimate enough for a visitor to quickly absorb its strong medieval character and small-town quaintness.

My dad had a clever idea for decorating for this year. He has a row of solar-powered lights along the edge of his front porch. He bought a few inexpensive plastic jack-o-lanterns at K-mart. Then he cut holes in the bottoms of the jack-o-lanterns so he could push the mounting posts for the solar lights through the jack-o-lanterns so that the solar lights are inside the plastic pumpkins. So he now has a row of solar-powered jack-o-lanterns along the edge of his front porch.

Slept well last night, and I'm feeling energized!  Let's see how well that translates for bowling this evening.  lol

This weekend coming up will be a three day weekend!    That also means short work week next week.

Oh, and I found out one of the people I report to is leaving on vacation for Italy next Thursday, so that will lighten my workload for a week!



Today's travel destination:

Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.

Visit Churchill, the polar bear capital of the world, in October.  Not only is it prime time for the polar bears to gather in this area of long established denning sites, but late-fall skies are also frequently pulsing with the northern lights.

How is everyone on this Hump Day?

Bowling went well last night, and I decided to skip the exercise routine this morning since I got home late again.  I let myself sleep in to 6:15, quick shower, and then right off to work.

It seems to work, as I don't feel completely drained today.



Today's travel destination:

Baalbek, Lebanon.

Baalbek, in the fertile Bekaa Valley, originated as a place of worship to Baal, the Phoenician sun god, and was called Heliopolis by the Greeks.  Later the Romans selected it as the site of their own large temples, like thsi one to the god Bacchus.
