Hiya BetterMost friends!!!!

I have this week as a Stay-Cation!  Very much looking forward to the time off!

My Halloween Costume was delivered last week.  I have a party to go to on the 24th, I'll be a grim reaper.

I also ordered 5 new pairs of sweatpants, the ones I had were getting pretty worn.  I dropped them off at the tailor to have the legs taken up a bit.

Happy Columbus Day banker's holiday! You do still get the day off, don't you?

Yes, banks and government offices are closed.

Here we call it Indigenous People's Day.

I've seen that reference made online.  In my immediate area there are large Italian communities, so that wont' fly here.  However, I have no problem calling the holiday Indigenous People's Day.  I think it's a good idea.

At work I send out reminder emails to my clients the week before a holiday.  This is the only one I don't call by name.  So instead of saying "Thursday is Thanksgiving" or "next Monday is Memorial Day", I simply said "Next Monday is a National Holiday and the banks will be closed"

How is it celebrated?

According to Google:
Traditional and Cultural Celebrations

Parades: Cities with large Italian-American populations hold grand street parades featuring marching bands, floats, and flag-waving. The largest annual event is the New York City Columbus Day Parade down Fifth Avenue.

Italian-American Pride: Because Christopher Columbus was Italian, many families and organizations view the day as a celebration of Italian heritage and contributions to the United States.

Public officials, cultural groups, and fraternal organizations like the Knights of Columbus hold wreath-laying ceremonies and historical gatherings.

When I was younger, and only knew what the public school system taught us, I took part in those celebrations.  Now, as an adult, and knowing the truth about Christopher Columbus (got lost and landed in the Caribbean, instead of finding India,  he enslaved the Indigenous people, took them back with him as slaves (many didn't survive the trip), and thought they were "beneath him" and treated them poorly and in violent ways), I see no reason to honor him.  I'm perfectly happy to celebrate the Indigenous people instead.

My big celebration for today?  I got my vaccination for flu season!
