Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction. See if you can do it.

Hmmm ...

At first gance it was clockwise (so I voted that way).
When I looked slightly to the side and watched the figure with peripheral vision, it was easy to reverse it to anticlockwise.
Then, it became easy to look directly at the figure and reverse it.
Which might indicate that, either the brain can be trained to perceive things differently, .....
.......... or I'm bipolar

First it was clear that she is turning clockwise...and I voted. Then, I watched it again after making my vote, and she was turning anti-clockwise.    Then I started making her turn alternately clockwise and anit-clockwise until my brain started doing the same...

I have tried looking at that bloody thing every conceivable way I can (the only way I haven't yet tried is standing on my head!) and to me, she is always only ever moving clockwise.

Every time I look -- first it's going one way -- next turn it's going the other!    I think I'm double - brained. Does that make me extra smart?? Or does it half my capacity?

In answer to your question, personally I reckon you use more of your brain (both halves) than I do! I'm stuck on/in the right side only, it would appear haha!

That's so cool Kerry!  

At first she turned clockwise, and I voted. I was not able to see her turn the other way round, then I scrolled away and read the text. Afterwards I tried again. First she still turned clockwise. I squinted, willing myself to see her turn counter-clockwise. And she does! Now I can see her turn the direction I want, I can even let her switch back and forth after 1/2 round.

I tried several time to scroll back and then look at her again. Everytime I come back to the girl, she turns clockwise, so I guess my vote was correct.


Tip for Kerry: for me, it's the easiest to let het change directions in the moment when her outward foot is at the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock position (=pointing directly to the left or right side of the pic).

That is really weird Kerry! Where did you find this? I see her rotating clockwise, but if I look away and try hard enough, she appears to be spinning counter clockwise and then if I look at the screen she's still doing it, but then suddenly reverses back to clockwise again.

Ok who is gonna clean up the mess on my desk now...I just made myself so dizzy.  That little minx spun clockwise, then I started at her long enough and she started spinning counter, then clockwise, then I made her spin half one way half the other...that's when I almost fainted...LOL

             I saw her first going clockwise, and then i looked down, and when i looked back up she turned
counterclockwise.. Then i looked down again and back up, she switched again...it was back and forth...

I tried what you suggest and she's still spinning clockwise. 

Alas, it would appear that I am an inveterate half-wit! Looks like the entire left hemisphere of my brain has atrophied and withered away!

Yep, like most of you initially I saw her as clockwise but if I look with my peripheral vision she goes counter clockwise and if I close one eye or squint I can change her direction at will, even stop her mid spin but it gave me a headache    Thanks Kerry that was fascinating    Your not alone though I got Bob to look at her and he only sees her spinning clockwise and can't change her no matter how hard he tries...

I tried looking just outside the frame, to the right of the graphic, and concentrated on it peripherally. My hopes weren't high. I honestly didn't think it would work. But it did! Suddenly, it started to move anti-clockwise! And then it went back to clockwise again! 

So I guess I'd better change my response to "Both" now, hunh?! I'm thrilled!

Kerry that's GREAT!    It bothered my husband so much that he studied it at length on Sunday and he discovered...the shadow of the left foot would seem to indicate that they are facing away from you therefore turning anti clockwise , but the thumb and shoulder on the left would suggest she is facing you and therefore turning clockwise so by focusing on those area's seperately he could control which way she turned.  My logical man, takes every problem and works it until he figures it out for himself

Oh, yes, the arts most definitely were my first career choice.  I was an art history major beginning my first year in college and then I spent 7 years in grad school for a Ph.D. in art history.  I'm most definitely not a math person... I even have trouble doing relatively simple math in my head.  And, in college I took the bare minimum for the science requirements.

But, still... I can only see the figure moving counter-clockwise.  Interesting indeed.

It's exactly the opposite for me. I see myself far more as a left brain person (according to the given information), but yet see the girl turn clockwise.

That is quite possible. I got it, verbatim cut-n-paste, from Sydney's Daily Telegraph website. Quality journalism, it ain't!   

The Daily Telegraph is known locally as The Daily Terror. It's a bit of a rag! 

Having said that, however, I am a classic right brain person and it got it right with me!

Wow, this is amazing! I could only see it going clockwise for a good while and then BAM! It changed direction! And then I saw going from anti clockwise to clockwise and back and thro every 10 seconds or so!

So what does it make a person who answered "both? A GENIUS ??  (I wish!)

I can only see the figure going clockwise. No matter what I do I can't see her going counter clockwise.  This means I have a right brain, but looking at the descriptions I am definitely a left brain person...

Initially I saw her only clockwise but now can switch between the 2. I have to admit the clockwise is definitely more prevalent, which is odd for someone with all science degrees.

Yet when I think about it, my academic career was a fallback for when arthritis curbed my ballet career so who knows.Guess I am just mixed up but I knew that anyway. It reminds me of all those optical illusion pictures, vase or 2 faces etc and the magic eye pictures which I love.

When I watched the dancer this morning, she was going counter clockwise.  I had just signed onto the computer, and hadn't really "exercised" my brain.

It's now 4 hours later, and I've been at work, processing loan numbers and payments and such.  I looked at her again, and now she's spinning clockwise.


I wonder if there's a connection.
