Congrats Shasta, I've really enjoyed your many posts!

Amanda, I'm so sorry to hear about the rain. In the Rocky Mountains, we are enjoying a couple of days of fine weather after two solid weeks of daily rain, with tornadoes, wind, hail, sleet and assorted precip mixed in.

Thank you, Ms. Ranger!  ;D

I haven't been here in a whole while.

Congrats to Shasta and to everyone whose milestones I've missed! :)

Amanda, hope your power was back after returning home from work, and that the water damage stays out of your apartment. Fingers crossed :-*.

And good luck to all Brokies who live in areas with severe storms!

The other day, we had our anual cherry harvest and jam-cooking fest  :D.

I was pitting cherries for five hours! :o We started at three and ended the whole thing at 8pm.
Hubby and one daughter picked the cherries; I and the same daughter pitted them; my son ran the mincer (which we use for the cherries, not for meat) and the other daughter was our stand-by-man, meaning she was lazy and mostly kept out of the whole thing, but was on the spot whenever I called her. And hubby cooked the jam at the end of the day.

I had my daughter taking some pics:

The cherry pickers:

Watering the cherries:

Our work station. Left row, from bottom to top: cherries, plate with pitted cherries, stones. Right row, top to bottom: cherry pitter (which was used by my daughter, she pitted one cherry for every four I pitted, it's much faster when done by hand), mincer, and a plate with cherry mush.

My hand (I looked like a serial killer from a real bad horror movie ):

We set a new record this year: we had 8 kilos (16 pounds) of cherry mush, which we cooked to jam. More than thirty glasses :o.
Additionally, we had approx. 13 kilos (26 pounds) of left over cherries which we gave to neighbours, friends and family:

I love-hate our annual Cherry Day. I love all the family working so well hand in hand, and I enjoy the first hour (or so) of cherry pitting. But soon the fun turns into real work :P.

:-* Thanks, pal.  ;D

You're welcome! :-*

I just wish my post contained a clever picture like some of the others. I looked but didn't find any. Maybe next time... when you achieve 8000! :D

Oops, I spoke too soon...just came in ferrying tender plants in yet another time...it's hailing, raining, and lightning yet again!!

Careful! You'll get pitched off the mountain and wish you hadn't tried!

Wow, that's a lot of cherries!  Are they all from your back yard?  Perfect crop for a Brokie.  Gonna make a cherry cake?  ;D

Yum, I love cherry jam.  8)

We're having plumbing issues here at work this morning. If they don't get them fixed soon, I may just have to pee in the sink.  >:(
