I'm such a bad mother! I feel so bad right now, oh sh!t.

My youngest finishes kindergarten and starts school after the summer holidays. Today is the kindergarten's big, fabulous daytrip to the zoo. It's only for the oldest children, the preschoolers. He was looking forward to it for the whole year, could hardly wait for it.

And guess who forgot? 

We were coming to the kindergarten between 9 and 9:30, as always, and the teacher said "Oh, what a pity, now you missed the trip to the zoo. You should have been here by 8am." OMG, you should have seen the face of my poor boy. I could have kicked myself and that darned substitute teacher, for wording it this way. My heart broke for my poor baby!

In the end, I drove him to the zoo, the head of the kindergarten called the daytrip group while we were on our way, and his own kindergarten teacher waited for him at the entrance and together they joined the group. So happy end for my little one and he didn't miss the trip. But still, I feel so bad about it. It's such an important event to him, how could I forget?

That's a GDBOAUS and no mistake.  When was the last time the darn teacher sent out a reminder?  You most certainly aren't the type of mum who would forget such a thing.  Give yourself a big hug from me.

I bet there is not a mum around who has not done something like that.
 I can remember getting a call from James and Matt's prep school, which still makes me get a hot flush now. I had dropped the 2 of them off at the gates, where they remained for some time before a lady from a house nearby, took pity on them. She rang the school, fortunately the janitor was there and contacted the head mistress, who the rang me.
You've guessed I had brought them back to school a day early, after a holiday. Ooops This was the sort of school where the mums have 2 very high powered jobs and still manage to organise their kids who are trilingual by 3 and in college at 12 meanwhile, their nanny is nearly as qualified as the parents and cook highly nutritious meals, loaded with omega 3 for brain power.
I only had one job and although we did have a nanny she gave my kids nuggets and fries !!!

So stop being so hard on yourself, not that you will, you are a mother. Pythagoras should have come up with a theory for that. Mother = guilt x stress + guilt squared and raised to a power of infinitum.

Could have been worse, James,  was Joseph in the nativity at nursery. I arrived late amidst much tutting, just in time to see James perform the Indian rope trick with cord holding on his tea towel. Not content with that, he opened all the cards postman Pat gave to Mary, don't ask itwas a modern nativity !!!!

OOOH I think I have an idea for a new thread, how our kids can embarrass us !!!

Oh, I forgot to report back. Thanks everybody for your kind words.
He enjoyed the zoo very much, and he didn't miss the "zoo-school", a special educational program by the zoo staff for kids at various ages. He even got to pet a baby Fennek and was totally over the moon about it!
He was glowing when he came home and I felt all right again.
