Speaking of, this new movie "Perfume" is getting very mixed reviews...ranging from 4 stars from Roger Ebert to a bomb from the reviewer for the Los Angeles Times. Hmmm...

Speaking of, this new movie "Perfume" is getting very mixed reviews...ranging from 4 stars from Roger Ebert to a bomb from the reviewer for the Los Angeles Times. Hmmm...

Two stars from the local in the Philadelphia Inquirer: "The ecstasy depicted in the film's final scene is about the silliest I have seen since the orgy sequence in Eyes Wide Shut."

Makes you want to run right out and see it, hunh?

I know. But Roger Ebert makes it sound like it is Oscar worthy...then again, he picked Crash for best picture last year (sigh...).

Perfume had a limited release on Dec 27 so obviously, the marketing execs think it is Oscar material, of some sort. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Hey Leslie! Congratulations on 4000 posts!

I've seen the movie Perfume when it came out overhere in September. In my opinion it's worth seeing for the cinematography and the soundtrack alone. Tom Tykwer does an amazing job here. Also Ben Wishaw is very good in the lead role. He fascinates, although his character is not one to feel much sympathy for. On IMDB a lot of people complained about the story not being realistic. Please! We know that before we go in there, don't we?   

Others critisized Dustin Hofman's bad accent. Well, I only had the chance to see it dubbed in German, so that didn't bother me. Lol.
I actually thought he was quite good.

Thanks for the congrats, and thanks for the review. Like I said, what I have read has been very extreme...it seems that reviewers either love this movie or hate it. I am not finding alot of middle ground.
