He he. This week, I got my first speeding ticket ever. I never had one before. I was 7 km/h too fast. Cost me 15 Euros (about 20$). I think once in every forty years I can afford it

I also love the airport security cartoon
And of course the BIG list. Thanks for posting it David  :-*

Morning all,

10 degrees here this morning and sunny.

What's with the speeding tickets this week? I got one too, last week, on 12/27. It was the second one in my life (the first one was 30 years ago) and the fourth time I have been stopped. Two times I managed to talk the cop out of giving me one (once with a state trooper!) but not last week. This guy was bound and determined to cite me. I think they had to balance the budget at the end of the month or something.

Total cost: $137

In Connecticut we have a law that allows you to make a right turn at a red traffic light if: you stopped, looked and there were no other cars coming the other direction.     This has developed into: slow down, turn right thru the red light without stopping if you think there is a chance the car coming the other direction will be able to slam on his brakes even though he has the right of way.

Here in Maine, we have a right on red law, too, but I always thought it was optional, not required. It really bugs me if I am at the light and I decide not to turn and the people behind me start honking! Since I am at the head of the line, maybe I can see something they can't?

Also, if it is posted "No right on red" then you CAN'T make a turn on the red light. Even so, people will honk at you to turn. Why? It drives me nuts.

More questions...

Why is the big building at the airport called THE TERMINAL?

Why is it always THE FINAL APPROACH when you are about to land?

We have become an increasingly aggressive society on the road it seems.     On my way to work (which is mid day) I see so many people driving recklessly.     Gabbing on their cell phones,  weaving in and out of traffic at high speed, no turn signals,  tailgating and the one that scares the the most?   The person who changes lanes in front of you using a spot no bigger than their car length nearly taking your front bumper off.

My big question is..........

Where is everyone going in such a hurry?

yesterday I was driving on a divided highway and a driver was driving on my side going the opposite direction...people were running off the road to avoid hitting him.

How far do you have to drive on the wrong side before you notice? and when you do notice why don't you PULL over!!

Yup, David is right. There are drunken drivers and driving drinkers.

Oh you'd be surprized how many drunks there are during the day!       We just fired a Supervisor for showing up to work at 11:30 AM legally drunk.

Makes you wonder if those drunks driving the wrong way on the highway are thinking the same thing about everyone else!

Drunk: OMG!   Look at all these people on the wrong side of the road!

About a mile from my office, on my drive home, is a very busy intersection...well marked, with lots of lights, but there are about 5 streets coming into it, an entrance to I295 and another entrance to US Route 1. I was at the light and over at the I295 entrance was an SUV on the wrong side of divider. I just looked and thought, "Oh my God." It was dark, 5:30 pm, lots of cars. Fortunately, people seemed to be aware of what was going on and either didn't move or moved at a snail's pace. The SUV managed to turn around (in front of 3 lanes of traffic!) and took off down Route 1. It could've been a disaster if someone was careless, not paying attention, or speeding. Fortunately, that didn't happen!

I always hear people (ok usually YOUNG drivers) talking about what good drivers they are and I always think: "Maybe it is not that YOU are such a great driver but that OTHER drivers are watching out for you and cutting you some slack"

cause I know there are a lot of idiots that negotiate situations successfully not because of their skill but because everyone else got out of the way.

1) A woman I know slightly recently got a DWI at 8 a.m. On her way to work.

She's had a drinking problem for a while, Hopefully this will be what gets her to seek treatment.

2) My grandmother once drove the wrong way on a divided highway for about a mile before she got pulled over. She wasn't drunk, but she was in her late 80s and getting pretty ditsy. She lost her license after that.
