We had a great Fourth too. Mini-Meno and I went with friends to watch a reading of the Declaration of Independence at a local bookstore, then spent a long time looking at books, talking with our friends, eating croissants.
When we got home, Mr. Meno and Mini-Meno decided to go to a local wading pool (and he drove for the first time since breaking his finger 3 weeks ago).
While they were out, I had a tremendously good time putting together the doll house we bought for Mini-Meno over a week ago, but haven't had the opportunity to assemble. It took me a little over a couple of hours (if I had to put another one together, I bet it would take less than an hour, now that I understand how it all goes), and it was fun to watch come together. I listened to a country music station for fun (wow are there a lot of country Fourth of July related songs!)
Mini-Meno loves the doll house, and she and I played with it until it was time to go out and see fireworks. We brought chairs and settled in at a nearby incredible overlook, to see dozens of small fireworks displays across Puget Sound. Very cool. And my husband's best friend happened to walk by with his dog, so he joined us for a while.
It was really a great day. One worry for me is, after I got home last night, and caught up on some email, I realized how close the Santa Barbara fire is to my sister's house. They aren't talking about evacuating that area yet, but to me it's worrisome.
I know this is probably the best time of my life and I am very grateful.
