If Jack had "moved on" it was pretty quick. considering his great love for Ennis

The nod she gave Ennis when he bought them down, indicates that she was pleased that he had found them, and knew that he would realize the significance of them.

Me too. I think Mrs Twist either knew, or suspected a lot more than her husband did. In my mind's eye (in that rose tinted spectacles world lol!) I like to think that maybe Jack talked to his mother about Ennis - there certainly seem to be bits both in the story and the movie that suggest Jack had a good relationship with his mother. How else would she have known that the shirts were Jack and Ennis's? I also felt there was a look from her to Ennis when her husband talked about Jack wanting his ashes scattered on Brokeback Mountain that suggested she knew the significance of that. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but that's the way I like to picture it.

Basically what Katie said.

We don't know Jack had 'moved on'.  All we have is Jack talking to his father.  We have no idea if Jack even asked his 'rancher friend', or if it was just Jack blowing off steam or indeed, maybe Jack planning ahead by talking about it and getting himself used to the idea that perhaps maybe he needed to move on.

Thanks, now that I can get my head round.I have moved on physically(see my blog) but mentally and emotionally I am not even off the starting blocks. Its like if you say something out loud or do it,then maybe your heart will follow. So maybe that what Jack was trying to do.
I too cannot get over OMT having had the Randal conversation with Jack.

I also think his bringing it up with Ennis was to be cruel. He may have led a "simple" plain life, but I don't think he was stupid. He wanted to hurt Ennis.Jack must have mentioned Ennis several times over the years.

In the short story it says Jacks father was"staring at Ennis with an angry  knowing expresion" Ennis obviously upset says "can't begin to tell you how bad I feel"

This is followed by OMT first piece of nastiness saying he knows where BBM is.

So he has fixed Ennis with a "knowing expression" he knows where BBM is,yet does not want his only sons last wishes carried out. That in itself is cruel.
Following on from this he talks of how Jack used to talk of Ennis ,and you get the impression this has been talked of more than once .Then the punch in the guts,"then this spring hes got another ones going to come up."

Now I have thought it through, with a little help from my friends here ,I think OMT knew exactly what
had transpired over the years and knew exactly how to stick the knife in.
I think he was a,twisted, vicious man from when Jack was a young boy (urinating on him incident) and he remained a nasty viciuos twisted man to the end.
Now I come to think of it Twist is a pretty apt name for him.

Good, right got that of my chest now,and feel a little clearer.
