Absence of Aliens??

--- Quote from: DavidInIndy on April 21, 2008, 05:54:42 pm ---Have you ever wondered if perhaps some of these UFO are actually us rather than aliens from other planets? What if at some point in time we figure out time travel? Maybe some of those UFOs are actually people from right here on earth travelling back in time to OUR time.
They even made a movie about this. One of the Star Trek movies was about the USS Enterprise going back in time to capture some humpback whales and take the animals back into the future with them.

intersting point, and the Star Trek franchise made two time travel movies Star Trek 4 ( the whales film) and Star Trek 8 ( where Enterprise E goes back to the mid 21st century to fight the BORG)
perhaps a more logical alternative along that line is the "multiverse" usage of alternate time lines. each time line has an infinite number of variants. the "alien" visitors are then visitors from another timeline.

in the absence of knowledge that we are not alone, we should perhaps say that we may be alone.
I suspect that in a galaxy with as many stars as ours, tens of thousands of light years across, it is unlikely that we are the only intelligent life forms. the question is, how do we communicate with much less visit these hypothetical life forms? without warp drive or the equivalent, the travel times between most stars is very, very long. and even messages at the speed of light may take hundreds or thousands of years to transit if the other intelligence is located in a stellar system that far away.

Didn't I just read a net news story that Stephen Hawkings now thinks there probably is low-level life on other planets?
