1. How many pets do you have? And if you do have pets, what kinds of animals are they? Once had a mad abyssinian named Oz (for Ozymandias), but he died, and could never have another pet. Eight years later, and it's still too sad.

2. What color are the walls in your living room? Yike! Let's just say it USED to be white--17 years ago. Don't ask!

3. What are you wearing right now? White tee shirt, black gym shorts, white socks.

4. How many times do you dine out each month? Used to be 30+. Now--maybe 5-7.

5. What is the name of the closest major city to you? I live in New York (Manhattan)--do you mean another major city? I'm a provincial!

6. Do you believe in ghosts? In people's minds and memories, yes. In reality--I'd like to say no. But--who knows? Quantum physics and Space/Time are very weird. Maybe ghosts are simultaneous serial lives overheard in 'different' rooms.

7. Do you wear a wrist watch? Nope. that's what the cell phone was really created for.

8. Do you prefer sweetened ice tea or unsweetened? Tea? Unsweetened only, hot or cold. Coffee? I'm a brown sugar addict!

9. Do you have any loose change in your pocket? If so, how much? Never. Ever, ever. Give coins away as tips or whatever. HATE change.

10. Do you drink bottled water? Yes--then refill with tap.

11. Do you like thunderstorms? Sometimes.

12. Are you a Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter person? (your favorite season) Love all four of them, and I love each one just as the previous one begins to pall.

13. What is your favorite television show? Don't watch television, but only now I'm beginning to watch snippets and clips on my laptop, so I'll say 'Brothers and Sisters,' but I really only watch Kevin and Scotty--hey, I said I'm provincial.

14. What is your favorite movie? (Brokeback Mountain doesn't count!) At the moment? 'Chris & Don.'

15. How many televisions do you own? None--not since 1995 or so--

16. Do you have a night light in your bedroom? I have a light, but only on if I fall asleep unawares. I fall asleep easily, though--I have to say, 'Oops, turn off the light, now.' When the light is off so is my brain--instantly.

17. What is your favorite board game? When I was a kid: 'Risk.' (My favorite countries were Irkutsk and Kamchatka--don't tell me why.) Since then, nothing.

18. Have you ever played Dungeons & Dragons?  Never. Nor Myst, nor--whatever. Not my bag.

19. If you were granted ONE wish by a genie, what would you wish for? I'd like a magic housekeeper, please, who would wash and iron also--and who'd pay my amex card with a magic check book!

20. Who can you relate to more, Jack or Ennis? And why? I love Jack. Unfortunately, I AM Ennis.

21. How many DVDs do you own? Too many. And (x number) VHS tapes I should throw away (Hello--no TV)!

22. Are you sick and tired of hearing about the upcoming presidential election this November? No, I'm obsessed.

23. If you decided to learn a new foreign language, which language would you choose, and why? I'd like to learn French for real, please. Tell the magic genie housekeeper--French lessons starting tomorrow, ok?

24. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? I love, love, love where I live, in New York. If I had to leave--Paris, please (London and Rome are nice too)!

25. Read any good books lately? Saddest thing about aphasia, an acquired communication disorder (since I had a stroke two years ago)--I cannot read--books, that is--not at all. I have only lately stopped buying books as I have only realized how wasteful--and frustrating--it is. Oh well: We Shall See.

1. How many pets do you have? And if you do have pets, what kinds of animals are they? One black cat named Vivien!

2. What color are the walls in your living room?  White (it's a rented apartment that I've never re-painted).

3. What are you wearing right now?  Grey yoga pants and a blue flannel pajama top with sheep on it!

4. How many times do you dine out each month?   I eat lunch out almost everyday, but I probably only eat dinner out about 5-ish times per month.

5. What is the name of the closest major city to you?  Well, Pittsburgh.

6. Do you believe in ghosts? Yes

7. Do you wear a wrist watch? Yes

8. Do you prefer sweetened ice tea or unsweetened? Unsweetened

9. Do you have any loose change in your pocket? If so, how much?  I almost never have change in my pockets but I always, 100% of the time have change in the bottom of my bag/ purse.  Usually more than $2 worth.

10. Do you drink bottled water? Sometimes.

11. Do you like thunderstorms? Yes!

12. Are you a Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter person? (your favorite season) I like Spring and Fall... the seasons that aren't too hot and aren't too cold.

13. What is your favorite television show?  At the moment it's So You Think You Can Dance.  I just think it's lots of fun to watch.

14. What is your favorite movie? (Brokeback Mountain doesn't count!  ;)It depends on my mood.  One of my favorite feel-good movies is Brining Up Baby with Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant.

15. How many televisions do you own? Two, but one of them is broken and sitting in the closet (I keep telling myself I should just throw it away... but for some reason that's hard to do).

16. Do you have a night light in your bedroom? No.

17. What is your favorite board game? Balderdash

18. Have you ever played Dungeons & Dragons? No.

19. If you were granted ONE wish by a genie, what would you wish for?  That's a tough one.  On a personal level, I'd wish for a girlfriend.  On a general level, I'd wish for greater understanding/communication/tolerance/acceptance amongst people in society across the board and across boundaries.

20. Who can you relate to more, Jack or Ennis? And why?  I think of myself as being a bit more like Ennis, because in my real life I'm pretty introverted/ introspective.  I wish I had Jack's capacity for easy socializing, etc.

21. How many DVDs do you own? About 40-ish.  But I own over 600 CDs... I'm more of a music person than a movie person, believe it or not.

22. Are you sick and tired of hearing about the upcoming presidential election this November?  Yes, I am pretty tired of it now.  I was far more excited when Hillary was in the race.  Now that it's the general election, the whole decision is much easier and cut-and-dry.  I would have preferred Hillary, but I'll definitely vote for Obama.  Now I feel like the whole general election campaign is just going to drag on.

23. If you decided to learn a new foreign language, which language would you choose, and why? I would really just like to get a lot better at French, which is my best foreign language at the moment... but I wish it was better. It's the most important language for my line of work/ specialty.  I can read it and write it pretty well, but I'm too, too, too self-conscious when it comes to speaking/conversation.

24. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?  I would love to live in London or someplace in England someday.

25. Read any good books lately?  I just re-read Sarah Waters' book Affinity

Hunh.  Now this is an interesting suggestion.  I've never thought of putting brown sugar in coffee... but it does sound good! :)

As I mentioned in my questionnaire, I like my tea unsweetened (that goes for both hot and cold tea), and for coffee I usually only use milk or cream.  Sometimes I do like it sweeter when I'm in the mood for something more decadent.  I'll try the brown sugar idea some time I think!

Found this questionnaire rather late, but here goes:

1. How many pets do you have? And if you do have pets, what kinds of animals are they?
Five dogs (three Shih Tzus, terrier mix and a Pekingese), a pet housechicken (rescued as a chick and raised as a caged bird), two goats in the backyard and two cats on the porch.

2. What color are the walls in your living room?
Uh, sort of "we never got around to painting" off-white.

3. What are you wearing right now?
As hot weather is upon us, my standard household attire is a 3X tee shirt that fits like a chemise, and basic underwear.

4. How many times do you dine out each month?
About once, in terms of "dining out."  Grabbing a Sausage McMuffin or a roasted chicken Subway sandwich doesn't count.

5. What is the name of the closest major city to you?
Kansas City, Missouri.

6. Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes, although I suspect that in terms of the dead contacting us, that isn't generally under our control.

7. Do you wear a wrist watch?
Have tried to several times in my life, and they seem to disappear into thin air. About 20 years back, my Mom gave me a really beautiful one and it fell off my wrist and got lost within 3 days; I felt so bad about it I've never bought one since.

8. Do you prefer sweetened ice tea or unsweetened?
Sweetened sometimes but unsweetened if I'm really thirsty.

9. Do you have any loose change in your pocket? If so, how much?
No loose change right now; my pockets generally contain about 50 cents plus my car keys.

10. Do you drink bottled water?
Once in awhile I'll order something like Evian in a restaurant, but that's about it.

11. Do you like thunderstorms?
Yes. I respect them and stay under cover but love to listen to and watch them. In the Midwest we get some real honkers.

12. Are you a Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter person? (your favorite season)
Generally I'm a cool-weather person so early spring and most of fall and early winter are my favorite times for weather.

13. What is your favorite television show?
They change periodically and unfortunately, there are a lot of shows that I don't start watching until long after they're off the air.  Right now Law and Order: Criminal Intent is the one I try not to miss.

14. What is your favorite movie? (Brokeback Mountain doesn't count! )
That's a toughie; they change over time.  Perennial favorites include Sophie's Choice, A Man For All Seasons (the Paul Scofield version) and Titanic.  My favorite Westerns are Tombstone and The Long Riders, the latter arguably a "Midwestern."  Come to think of it, most of my favorite movies were made since the mid-1970s.

15. How many televisions do you own?
One, though we're going to get a second one for our bedroom.

16. Do you have a night light in your bedroom?
No.

17. What is your favorite board game?
Not much into board games but I'd guess Monopoly would be my choice.

18. Have you ever played Dungeons & Dragons?
No; I did a feature story about it a long time ago for a local newspaper but never got into it. That's probably just a generational thing.

19. If you were granted ONE wish by a genie, what would you wish for?
Three more wishes.

20. Who can you relate to more, Jack or Ennis? And why?
I can relate to Jack in terms of growing up with people he "couldn't please no way" but generally more with Ennis in terms of being basically an introver.

21. How many DVDs do you own?
Just counted and we have a total of 24 - 25 if you count my second copy of Brokeback; I have one wide-screen version and one full-screen.  Generally, I'll rent DVDs, buying only if I'm pretty certain I'll watch over and over again; otherwise rent from Netflix or our local video store.

22. Are you sick and tired of hearing about the upcoming presidential election this November?
No; but I'm sick and tired of the irrelevancies.

23. If you decided to learn a new foreign language, which language would you choose, and why?
Chinese. It's a country I've always felt a kinship with for some reason.

24. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I'd keep my base where it is but would have a summer house in Minnesota and a winter one in some warmer climate. And do a lot of travelling.

25. Read any good books lately?
Am just finishing up On Brokeback Mountain by Eric Patterson and before that re-read The Cry For Myth (Rollo May)

One of my truly guilty pleasures is strong hot coffee with Cool Whip in it.   ;D

4. How many times do you dine out each month? Depends.

5. What is the name of the closest major city to you? Sydney's Central Business District, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House are all just a few minutes drive from where I live. I guess that must mean my closest major city is Sydney!  ::)

17. What is your favorite board game? I don't play board games.

18. Have you ever played Dungeons & Dragons? No.

19. If you were granted ONE wish by a genie, what would you wish for? Only one wish? Don't genies normally grant three wishes? If so, I would wish for Health, Wealth & Happiness. But if I did come across a mean spirited genie, offering only one lousy wish, I would ask for Health.   ;)

20. Who can you relate to more, Jack or Ennis? And why? Ennis, because I'm a lot like him, in many ways.  :-*

21. How many DVDs do you own? Not a lot. About 50. I never seem to have time to watch them. They sit there, gathering dust.  :-\

22. Are you sick and tired of hearing about the upcoming presidential election this November? No comment!  8)

23. If you decided to learn a new foreign language, which language would you choose, and why? Without hesitation, Italian! Why? So I can chat-up all those gorgeous Italian men in their own language! ;)   ;D

24. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Australia. I love my country.  :D

25. Read any good books lately? I keep buying them. There are piles of them sitting on my coffee table and lamp tables. I keep dusting them. But I never seem to find the time to READ them! Maybe when I retire! ;)

That was fun, David!   :D

I love that show too Souxi. I think Yvette is so cute and pretty. And I miss Derek. But David is also very good, don't you think? I heard he'll be leaving the show too. I also miss Phil Wyman (I'm not sure if I'm spelling his last name correctly). I also like Kath a lot. I think we are a year behind all of you in England. They air Most Haunted every Friday night on the Travel Channel and I always watch it.

I also watch Ghost Hunters, another ghost show very similar to Most Haunted. It airs each Wednesday evening on the Sci-Fi channel. Grant Wilson, one of the lead investigators is absolutely gorgeous! :)

Yup, Mäxi, or Max actually. But Max, pronounced German is a hard sound, so mostly I call him Mäxi. The "ä" is how you pronounce the "a": Max, cat, gas, etc.
The funny little dots above the ä, ö or ü are called Umlaute, but "oomlots" is close to how we pronounce the word  :)

Will post a pic of Mäxi in the Shutter Bug Club :-*

I,m not 100% sure about Derek. Some of his alleged "possesions" were a bit what I call "iffy". In other words, I aint sure if, he was faking it sometimes. But David Wells is very good, as is Gordon Smith. Most Haunted is on Living TV over here. When we have Most Haunted Live, at halloween, they usualy show it in the states too at the same time. They get lots of American viewers emailing them.  Yes I watch Ghost Hunters too. At the moment we have Ghost Hunters International. This week they went to corvan castle in transylvania, where Most Haunted did a live show once. I also like Ghost Whisperer, thats coming back soon. I do love my spooky stuff lol. btw I can,t STAND Yvette. She has got such a big mouth and she,s so bossy, I couod hit her!!! Poor Carl, I dont know how he puts up with her.   >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I love that movie too Dobie! I also loved the books. I've read them a dozen times probably! :)

Hi David,  Yes, I've read the books at least 4 or 5 times as well.  I've watched the FOTR at least 50 times, and the other 2 almost as much, but the first one of the trilogy is my favorite.  I LOVE Elijah Wood.  He's such a cutie, and I had the opportunity a few years ago to actually meet him; have my picture taken with him and have him sign my LOTR book.  I also met Sean Astin that same weekend and had  him sign my LOTR book as well.
This is a great thread!  I'm fascinated with everybody's answers!

Great quiz, I was fascinated as one of the few watch wearers, how things have changed over the decades.I wonder how different the answer to wearing a watch would have been before small cell phones.
Also the majority seem to be pet owners. I liked the fact that unlike me, so many seem to be happy loving where they are. I have always had wanderlust though.

I lost my wristwatch down the toilet last year while I was cleaning it. I haven't bought another one since then. At least it wasn't an expensive one!

Maybe we should start a "wristwatch poll". Digital vs analog, or something like that. Anyone feel up to it? :)

I've watched the FOTR at least 50 times, and the other 2 almost as much, but the first one of the trilogy is my favorite--

Say 'read' instead of 'watched,' and then yes, when I was a teenager, I read them all at least 50 times: The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Rings, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King.

A wonderful story, a wonderful world--

I am ashamed of the number of TV's I own. I am going to try and justify it, all the kids have 1 so that is 3 then we have one in our bedroom so that's 4 we have one in the guest bedroom,5 One in the family room,6 one outside, where I spend most of my time,7 One in the exercise room 8
O.K it still seems excessive, and what is worse, most are hardly ever used.
The outdoors one is probably used most. Oh I give up,please can someone post with more than me,Please

Just to make you feel worse (LOL) -- one of my 2 was given to me by my niece's mom and it's so old that it doesn't have a hook up for a DVD player.  :P

My cousin whom I live near has one in the master bedroom, a huge one in the family room, a wall-mounted one in the kitchen, one in her bathroom, one in her daughter's room, one in each of the 2 guest bedrooms. Let's see --that's still just 7!!! Sorry, optom3 -- that's as close as I could get.  ;D

How great is America -- a place where you can have a TV in every room!! Maybe that should be made into an ad as a selling point to get more people to come to the U.S.  ;)

That was one of Frank Barone's dreams and desires, remember? A TV in the bathroom!

I have a TV (27 inch) in my bedroom, one in the guest bedroom (20 inch), one in the living room (48 inch plasma flat screen) and one in the basement (32 inch flat screen). I also have an old portable black and white TV in my bedroom cupboard. I've had it since I was a teenager and I don't have the heart to throw it out or give it to Goodwill. Sentimental value I guess.

I'm planning to get a small TV for the kitchen but I haven't done it yet.

My cousin watches the one in her bathroom while she is sitting down putting on make-up and doing her hair before work in the mornings -- then they all watch the one in the kitchen while they eat breakfast at the bar.

Speaking of Raymond -- I laughed a lot today -- it was the one where Ray and Robbie messed up the wedding announcements on purpose and they got sent out accidentally. (Which was weird -- how could the invitation printer lady get all the addresses?) Anyway -- Ray got in a lot of trouble for being a faker!! There was also the one where Robbie went to PA to ask for Amy's hand in marriage and her parents said no. LOL. Her brother was there with Miss Puss. So Funny!!!

Ok -- I'll stop. I know there is a whole other thread for that
topic!  :P  8)

Molly is the eldest, she is nearly 5, and a tabby. She very quiet and nervous.

Rio is 2yo and a tortoise shell but with black fur instead of white, she rules the roost.  She is also helping me to decorate by stripping wall paper off in the bedroom when I'm at work.......bless her   ;D

GENIUS !!!!!!

I never would have done the maths that way. With 2 simple sums I have gone from feeling like a spoiled brat to feeling deprived. Amazing bit of lateral thinking there.
Interesting fact, lateral thinking is a major part of the Oxbridge test used to determine suitabiliy for Oxford or Cambridge Universities. So as you cheered me up,I hope that little fact has boosted your self esteem a bit.One good turn and all that.

23. If you decided to learn a new foreign language, which language would you choose, and why?
Italian, it sounds so sexy

And those hot Italian guys speaking it LOOK so sexy too! :D

24. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Plymouth UK is quite cool, if were to be antwhere else, then maybe somewhere like Canada, have never been but the scenery looks awesome

Isn't Devon and Cornwall two areas in England where they make wine? In fact I think I remember hearing Cornwall sparkling wine won some international awards recently. And don't they grow olives in that part of England too? I've seen pictures of Southwest England and it looks very warm and tropical, almost Mediterranean. Lots of bright sunny beaches. It looks beautiful. :)

15. How many televisions do you own? I don't know, Dusty takes some to his work trailer or his house and I lost track of them

Dusty takes your TVs and you don't mind? Wow, that's awfully nice of you brokeplex! :)

16. Do you have a night light in your bedroom? I have those green glowing nite panels in every room, hallway and stairway, I am night blind.

I have those green glowing nightlights too. They last for years and years. I think one of them might be blue instead of green, and another one has a little moon and some stars on it.

Night vision is worse than day and gets worse as we get older. The rod cells which we use at night are not colour coded so we cannot use colour as a visual clue.Cone or day cells are colour coded.A simple example is, when driving during the day, we can tell which is road and which is grass verge because of colour. It really is enormously important for good vision.
We just never think of it.When driving at night unless we see things illuminated by white light, all we see is shades of grey, so differentiation becomes much more difficult.
Also full dark adaption takes about 15 mins, light adaption about 5 mins.If we are in a room and some one turns off all the lights we see nothing at first, then as the rod cells start to wake up, we start to see shadows and shapes, then we recognise those shapes.
When we leave a very dark room eg cinema and go into bright light, we are initially dazzled but recover our vision pretty quickly.
That is why you should drop your speed at night. It is also further complicated by the rod cells turning on and off as bright oncomming headlighs confuse our visual system into thinking it is daylight,so the cones start to switch on and then back to the rods as the headlights disappear.
I am staggered at the speed some people do on the interstate/moorway at night. It is madness.
Oops, sorry I have just become an optic bore !!!!

Yes Devon and Cornwall are two different counties that make up South West England, it has some of the best beaches in the UK, and certainly there are certain parts of Cornwall that have their own micro-climate.  Palm trees in the South West are a common sight.  I will be posting some pictures up soon I hope for you all to see, I took some of foals yesterday up on Dartmoor, north of Plymouth.

I do believe there are vineyards in Cornwall, most probably some in Devon as well, but not sure about olives, it wouldn't surprise if they did.   :)

There were quite a few on the moors, well about 6, some playing but one was most probably less than a week old, so cute.  I could stand quite close considering these are wild Dartmoor ponies.   :)

That is quite correct Chris. In fact Torquay in Devon is commonly called the English Riviera, because of the palm trees along the sea front. Devon and Cornwall are beautifull parts of England. Full of tiny fishing villiages and quaint little resturants. Very romantic if you beleive in all that stuff. ::) ;) ;D

:) it not as bad as it sounds, I just have had some left over portable tvs and radios from years gone by, and also some that I inheirited from mom and dad, see I never throw anything away.

so old tvs, answering machines, vcr's, telephones, etc, just sit in storage areas. Dusty is a tinkerer, he loves to take things apart and screw them up, so he takes my old electronic equipment to the little workshop in his back yard and plays with them to his hearts content.

I have some larger glowing panels in strategic places or otherwise I can't see at all at night, the cats also help me, they meow loudly when they see me groping in the dark. I use that kinda like sonar to navigate.

Oops, sorry I have just become an optic bore !!!!

gosh you haven't bored me, its great that someone here understands my challenge.

I am officially living with "night blindness". I can't drive at night without a special pair of geeky glasses which returns my sense of perspective which is diminished, as at night I don't see faint light well at all. You are correct this is a progressive condition that has worsened thru the years. When I was a boy, I loved amateur astronomy, and because I grew up in a small town away from the city lights, I developed it into a hobby. Even then, I noticed that I could not see faint stars that Chris could see, and it got worse thru the years until I was about 30 I could no longer drive at night.

I try to finish all of my business before the sun goes down, even living in a large city with well lighted freeways and streets, I am very fearful of driving after sundown. In my home I have installed special lights which react to the amount of light in the house, with the lamps or overheads on they will stay off, but when the lamps go off the green lighting panels go on. There are in fact 3 colors of lighting panels available for people who have this disability, green, blue and yellow. The opthamological surgeon who suggested that these lights might help me, noticed that I am more sensitive to the "green" wavelength of light when it is at faint levels, not the blue or yellow.

I also leave a radio tuned to the classical station on as well in a specially designated area of the house, this is a kind of homing aural beacon for me at night. The cats really have learned to meow when they see me fumbling in the dark, they of course can see perfectly in twilight, but they sense that I am blind at lower levels and warn me of their positions in the rooms. Dusty of course helps out all the time, he is able to drive at night for me if that is needed.

I have learned that whatever the Lord takes away, He also gives back to us. And it has been noticed that I have unusually good visual perception during the day light hours. I can read a street sign or a billboard much further down the road during the day than anyone else can. And, my sense of hearing seems better than most others, I can hear tiny echos that others don't, and I guess that acts a bit like sonar for me. I need any help I can get!  :)

Isn't his name Rocky? He is very cute. He's so sweet and gentle and I LOVE his face.

I also watch Little People Big World. It's one of my favorite shows. I have been a bit disturbed over what I've been hearing about Jeremy. I've heard he's extremely homophobic, and that bothers me a little. In fact, I've also heard Matt (and his father) are also very homophobic. There have been numerous discussions about it on the various message boards, including IMDb. You can read a lot about it over there and also on the TLC website, although they (TLC) seem to be rather quick in erasing anything negative about the Roloffs, which is understandable I guess.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0782374/board

This doesn't bother me enough to stop watching the show, but I DO find it a bit disillusioning. Especially since the Roloffs go around the country teaching and speaking about tolerance and acceptance, and yet seem perfectly happy to discount an entire group of people because of their sexual orientation.

Yes, I think you're right David.  I believe the dog's name is Rocky.  I had no idea the Roloff boys appear to have a homophobic streak in them.  That's surprising, and sad if it's true.  I

Yes -- the dog is Rocky and he's a bullmastiff which is what my Scout's mom was. Very big, sweet, gentle breed.

Did you all know that their friend, Mike, who is on the show with them a lot, died suddenly at the beginning of June? He was at a soccer meeting or practice, became ill, was taken to the hospital and operated on for a torn aorta. They'd expected the surgery to work, but he died. Sad. He was just 60.

No I didn't know that Mike died.  Wasn't he the one that was injured along with Jacob a few years ago when they were operating that huge slingshot?  I think they were slinging pumpkins?

Irish, then I could really talk to myself.

Ha! I have Irish cousins who are completely fluent and, when elsewhere (anywhere other than in Ireland) they often talk with one another in Irish. People will then wonder--what is that language!

On the other hand, when in Ireland, my cousins talk in English--of course!

Me, I'm the stupid monoglot, unfortunately. Sigh.
