What's your favourite gender neutral song?
Sheriff Roland:
The Billy Joe McCallister thread tried to do something that got off topic (I think)
Here's an attempt to get a tread started about your favourite gender neutral song: ie, song that could be appreciated by the gay folks because even though a man sings it (for example), he never says "she" as part of the lyrics, and therefore, the message can be applied to our gays life experiences.
My all time favourite song of the genre has to be Jimmy Rodgers' "Secretly"
Do do do do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do do do do
Why must I meet you in a secret rendevous
Why must we steal away to steal a kiss or two
Why must we wait to do the things we want to do
Why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why
Wish we didn't have to meet, secretly
Wish we didn't have to kiss, secretly
Wish we didn't have to be afraid to show the world that we're in love
Till we have the right to meet, openly
Till we have the right to kiss, openly
We'll just have to be content to be in love, secretly
Why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why
Wish we didn't have to meet, secretly
Wish we didn't have to kiss, secretly
Wish we didn't have to be afraid to show the world that we're in love
Till we have the right to meet, openly
Till we have the right to kiss, openly
We'll just have to be content to be in love, secretly
This song charted in in 1958! and even though I was only 5 at the time, I've always thought it could have reflected the realities of a gay man in love in my youth.
Your turn! Do you have a favourite gender neutral song?

Good one, Roland.
I always liked this one, from early Queen:
Now I'm Here ~ words and music by Brian May
Here I stand (here I stand..)
Look around around around around
(Around around around around..)
But you won't see me (you won't see me..).
Now I'm here (now I'm here..)
Now I'm there (now I'm there..)
I'm just a just a new man
Yes you made me live again
A baby I was when you took my hand
And the light of the night burned bright
And the people all stared - didn't understand
But you knew my name on sight
Whatever came of you and me?
America's new bride to be...
Don't worry baby, I'm safe and sound
Down in the dungeon just Peaches an' me
Don't I love her so?
Yes she made me live again.
A thin moon me in the smoke screen sky
Where the beams of your love light chase
Don't move don't speak don't feel no pain
With the rain running down my face
Your matches still light up the sky
And many a tear lives on in my eye
Down in the city, just Hoople and me
Don't I love him so, ooh, don't I love him so?
Whatever comes of you and me
I'd love to leave my memories with you.
Now I'm here (now I'm here.)
Think I'll stay around around around
(Around around around around..)
Down in the city just you and me
(Down in the city just you and me..)
Don't I love you so?

Don't know why, but I've always found this song incredibly sexy, even as a young lass.

Or what about this one?
I Think We're Alone, Now ~ words and music by Ritchie Cordell
"Children, behave"
That's what they say when were together
And watch how you play
They don't understand
And so we're
Running just as fast as we can
Holdin on to one anothers hand
Tryin to get away into the night
And then you put your arms around me
And we tumble to the ground
And then you say
I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound
Look at the way
We gotta hide what we're doin
'cause what would they say
If they ever knew?
And so we're
Running just as fast as we can
Holdin on to one anothers hand
Tryin to get away into the night
And then you put your arms around me
And we tumble to the ground
And then you say
I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound

My friend Eric and I both love this one by Fleetwood Mac
Landslide
I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down
Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life
Well, Ive been afraid of changing
cause Ive built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
Im getting older too
Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down

Love that song, Victoria.
On that same melancholy note, here's another one I like:
Angel ~ Sarah McLachlan
Spend all your time waiting
For that second chance
For a break that would make it okay
There’s always one reason
To feel not good enough
And it’s hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
Oh beautiful release
Memory seeps from my veins
Let me be empty
And weightless and maybe
I’ll find some peace tonight
In the arms of an angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You’re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort there
So tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
There’s vultures and thieves at your back
And the storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lie
That you make up for all that you lack
It don’t make no difference
Escaping one last time
It’s easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
This glorious sadness that brings me to my knees
In the arms of an angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You’re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort there
You’re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
