Front-Ranger:
That is one of the few benefits of getting older, isn't it GayLee? I am a Kansan meself, raised in Wichita. I spent summers and my college years in Lawrence, then moved to Kansas City for a few years before heading out to the West Coast. But I came back as far as Colorado and here's where I hope to stay for a long long time. I am a journalist by training though I work in a corporation and also do marketing. I got my degree in Radio, TV, and Film from KU. The Film part has come in the handiest!! I have two teenagers, in fact my home and life are fully loaded with husband, children, a dog, a cat, assorted vehicles including a HD motorcycle. So now you see why I spend my time working for a corporation! In my nonexistent spare time I like to do the gazillion things that Colorado has to offer, from hiking in mountains to attending movies, operas, and museums. I hope to carve out more leisure time this summer for that as well as communing with my fellow Brokies!

Whoa! What a busy life! It is nice that you have access to so many cultural opportunities. When I lived in Indianapolis, I had those benefits. Now I live in rural Indiana. BORING!! Not much culture here per se.

--- Quote ---I have been to yoder, really nice little town...and i bet your last name is very Dutch or Sewdish...maybe even YODER??  so you are not practicing your families religion?? how is that accepted??  at my age i can rethink EVERYTHING and not owe anyone an explaination...and that is the trailI am on....

It is a German and Swiss name. And, yes, you can properly surmise my last name is Yoder. Before my ancestors came to America, my last name was spelled "Joder" - it was mispronounced too much in the US. Thus, the spelling was modified to "Yoder". (can you tell I get into family history?)

Actually, I am still a Mennonite. Shocking, I know. Let's just say I have very liberal points of view. However, the Mennonite Church looks just like any other church/ denomination ... we wear the same clothes as others, we drive cars, have electricity, have TV's, see movies, drink alcohol (albeit sparingly), even swear on occasion. Yep, even sinners like me have sex outside of wedlock.  :o

I think that is so cool you have been to Yoder! Now you can attest that, yes, it does exist!

slayers_creek_oth:
I was born on July 18, 1982 in a suburb of Austin, TX.  Mom and dad divorced at age 2 and I have only seen my dad a handful of times since then.  Mom remarried 3 times and had 3 more kids over the next 9 years.  I lived on a large ranch in Texas up until age 16..I graduated early and moved to Utah with my mom and her sort of husband whom was in the military.  I started school at the University of Utah in Business Administration at 17 and also worked at movie theater part time.  Graduated with my ABA at 2002.

Mom moved back to Texas and I married in September of 2003 and was also promoted to manager of the theater I worked at that April.  Bought a house with my wife and lived happy...

If only it ended that way...

I was promoted to regional manager when another local theater was put under my management in August 2004.  And then I got control of another in February of 2006.  I had a son named Charlie Jacob in April of this year but am now however going through a divorce from my wife of almost 3 years.

My younger brother (19) is now living with me because of a few troubles he had with the law back home in Texas.  He helps me take care of my son while I'm at work and is a great help with the household chores and such...

CJ will be 8 weeks tomorrow...

HEY...super to meet another Kansas gal...i am VERY familiar with Lawrence...my son in law is a grad and i worked in lawrence for about 5 years....we lived in Oskaloosa which is notrh and west of lawrence for 30 years...my daughter lives in kansas city, so i know that area too..
she and her husb lived in wichita when they first got married for about 18 months, so we have been there alot too...we also attended horse shows there for many years...
and I LOVE colorado..in fact that is where the Dude Ranch is! we will be there in October...the ranch is in Deckers, north of Woodland park...we bought 35 acres in the Guffey area with a friend who had the adjoining 35....they lived there for several years, and we were out there about 4 times a year for many years...we also had friends in the Springs...we had to sell the land when our friend moved back to kansas...they were holding the deed and it was one of those business with friends things that never work out too well....we miss it our there and don't get out so much any more...i think it has been about 4 years!!  unbelievable...SO i can't wait for October....lots of commonality between us!, but my life is NOT as hectic as yours..my kids are raised, life is quieter now, but i do miss the hubub of children under foot... there is a time for everything and when i miss it too much i have the grandkids over for a few days and that usually gets me over it !! ::)
feel free to PM me and if you are ever in the area i would love to meet you....it would be SO cool to have a brokie group here, but alas, you know the heartland...and i am the only one i know who is hooked...
