The Catholic League is closely tracking Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code sequel that opens this May. They’ve covered the “historical inaccuracies” angle, the “apologetics booklet” angle, and now, thanks to a priest spy, they say they’ve found a smoking gun proving the movie’s anti-Catholicism.
“Dressed casually, so no one knew he was a priest,” Father Bernard O’Connor “hung out with the film crew last summer for two days when they were filming in Rome.”
So reports Bill Donohue in his March 4 press release.
“A person self-described as a ‘production official,’ told the Canadian priest that Brown spoke for the majority of those working on the movie when he said, ‘Like most of us, he [Brown] often says that he would do anything to demolish that detestable institution, the Catholic Church.’ He credited the media for the ‘demise’ of the Church. This same person opined that the Catholic Church ‘is humanity’s chief enemy,’ adding that this sentiment is reflective of those in Hollywood.”
Donohue concludes with a challenge.
“So the cat is out of the bag,” he writes. “If anyone associated with the movie wants to debate me on anything I’ve said, I would be glad to do so.”

ROME – Director Ron Howard claimed Sunday that the Vatican interfered with efforts to get permits to shoot certain scenes of his "Angels & Demons" religious thriller in Rome — a charge the Vatican said was purely a publicity stunt.
