In the New Yorker...

I knew TNY's profiles of odious people would end up here. :-\
--- Quote from: serious crayons on February 17, 2026, 05:19:43 pm ---...I enjoyed the piece about the 30th anniversary of Infinite Jest, and discussion of how the book has become so male-coded. I love David Foster Wallace's essays and at one point challenged myself as a New Year's resolution to read the almost 1,100 pages of Infinite Jest. I mentioned the plan to my son, who has read the entire book. A couple of months later, he saw the book sitting on a table with a bookmark at about page 17. "Looks more like a finite jest to me," he said.

Meanwhile my Facebook memories feed reminds me that I was reading an article about DFW 17 years ago. I'll bet I won't be reading about Joe Rogan 17 years, or even 17 days from now.

I've never even seen Joe Rogan except in those little short videos with clips from his show.
What was the article you were reading, FRiend? Maybe one by D.T. Max, who wrote a biography of DFW and also writes for TNY?

Thanks! I read it when it ran but I'll take another look!

I was rereading it and smiled when a quote appeared from IJ saying a soctor was wearing scrubs with his first name embroidered in cursive.
So, AI can't read cursive. Making us forget how to write in it...do you suppose it's a plot?
