LauraGigs:
LauraGigs, checking in.
In my case a long-term contract ended/ran its course, and now I'm looking for work again. (I wasn't "canned" per se, but I have been in the past + know how devastating that can be.)
Anyway, job-hunting is a total pain in the ass! So we can commiserate on that too.

Hope you had at least someone doing something nice for you on this day (even if it's only a small comfort).

Actually, I was not alllowed to even speak to anyone. An HR person stood in the doorway of my office until I had all my belongings packed up (it took several hours, since I had been there six years) and then a security guard escorted me out of the building!

For you!

Thank you very much, friend!! :-*
louisev:
wow, sorry to hear all of his, Lee, David, Laura!
I am a contractor, and usually, depending upon how short my contracts are, I end up looking for a job at least twice a year. And man does it get tiring!!! I just went through a job search and was offered a contract, at Microsoft, which sounded pretty exciting except for all of the "high stress environment" and the fact that they treat contractors like a necessary evil, like a mercenary assassin coming in to shoot the bad guy. At the 11th hour my current customer found some money in the budget to extend me at least, a couple, or three, or four, or five months, so I'll be looking again before you know it!
And I hate those "police-action" type layoffs where they treat you like a convicted felon and escort you off the property. That's happened to me twice in my life!
southendmd:
Damn! Condolences, guys. I know at least a few other members who've been canned; not sure if they want to broadcast it, though.
Hugs, and good luck getting through the lean times.
serious crayons:
Sorry to hear that, Lee, David and Laura.
I wasn't officially canned, since I've been freelancing for 12 years, but I've been looking for something more steady with no luck whatsoever, and am finding freelancing gigs harder to come by these days, too. Can I be a semi-official member?
