I just saw this on AOL News. She was 88. She had the most beautiful soprano. Other than by reputation, I know her mainly from the movie version of Kiss Me, Kate, where she starred opposite Howard Keel. They sang beautifully together.

According to AOL News, her ambition had been to sing opera, and she fulfilled this after her movie career ended.
