As far as I know it started in Boston in 2000, but I didn't know it had spread to Chicago, Toronto even Budapest??  And people even come from all over the world to the Boston one.

It raises funds for charity wherever it happens, which usually the most frigid climes, and brings out thousands of cameras and tons of real holiday cheer.

Here are pictures from the 2011 one which happened Saturday in the Back Bay here, beginning and ending at the Lir Tavern.  It was in the thirties and there was a keen wind!  The people who participated were amazing in so many different ways!
