Ngozi graduated from Yale Spring 2013. Around that time she wrote a screenplay called
'Hardy' http://omgcheckplease.tumblr.com/post/106090002462
that was about a very closeted undergraduate hockey player who sustained a lot of injuries
on the ice and ended up addicted to pain-killers. Apparently Hardy is a dark story, and Ngozi
thought she could lighten it--and in 2014 this became the comic 'omg Check Please!'
and then May 2015 she started a Kickstarter campaign, which was successful:

WASHINGTON, DC–If there’s been a running theme for this year’s Winter Classic, it’s the closeness of the hockey community.
With the passing of Blackhawks assistant equipment manager Clint Reif a few weeks ago, the game has taken a back seat to focus on the relationships that make it so important. Reif’s passing showed how quickly that community can come together to honor one of its own.
But the other relationship that’s shined is that of Capitals forwards Tom Wilson and Michael Latta, a bromance that rivals any in the league.
If you’ve been watching ‘Road to the Winter Classic’ you’ve seen Wilson and Latta, two physical forwards with a knack for finding the penalty box, at their best. Whether it’s showing off the impressive contents of their bachelor fridge (mostly ketchup bought at Costco) or discussing Matthew Mcconaughey in Interstellar, the bond is undeniable.
Before the Winter Classic at Nationals Park, Wilson talked about the duo’s bond and their star turn on the reality series. The Capitals, once a team filled with young single guys, now has more family men, leaving them somewhat the odd men out.
“When you come into a team like this, a very close team, it’s a lot of families with young kids,” Wilson said. “We’re kind of the young crew.”
Wilson said he and Latta had a lot of mutual friends through the hockey community, but didn’t know each other till last year. After spending time together stuck in hotel rooms while on the road, they two bonded easily.
“He’s a really good guy and we seem to get along. So far, we haven’t killed each other, living with each other.”
Wilson says the portrayal of their friendship on ‘Road to the Winter Classic’ is also true to life.
“The first couple of days it’s a little weird, having a camera crew around. “They’ll film me for two hours and then use a 20 second clip. It’s tough to keep the media face on the entire time.”
