The give and take of Jack and Bitty’s relationship gets me every time alright.
Bitty, he’s good with his words. He can express his emotions freely and fully and knows just what to say (or knows not to say anything at all) to help a situation. When Jack is caught up in his own head or needs to just hear him talk, Bitty always knows exactly what to say. Jack thrives with this. Every time Bitty calls him Honey or Sweetheart or says “I’m so proud of you”, Jack falls in love all over again.
And Jack, on the other hand, can barely string together a sentence if it has any hint of emotion. And it’s not that he doesn’t want to, because, god, does he want to. He just doesn’t even know where to start. So instead, Jack expresses himself through touch. A casual arm slung across someone’s shoulder, holding Bitty in private, casual hip-checks and hugs between friends.
But physicality is one of Bitty’s weak points, especially with Jack. He’s spent his entire life hiding, and he never quite shakes the fear that comes with holding hands in public. And sometimes, sometimes it’s just a matter of not wanting to be touched, childhood memories flooding back. Jack helps the most with those moments.
And then there’s Jack’s devotion and Bitty’s support. Jack loves fully, completely, at an intensity he didn’t even know existed before Bitty. It’s so strong he can’t hide it, so he doesn’t even bother trying. Bitty absolutely loves this, loves the attention and reassurance that yes, he’s wanted, he’s being loved back. This is real and happening and it’s so much better than he ever thought.
Bitty helps Jack in more ways he will ever know. He grounds him, calms his fears and worries and makes him feel whole with every soft kiss. Bitty doesn’t fix him, no, but Jack does find that laying his head on Bitty’s chest while listening to him ramble on about all the ridiculous things he can think of, that Bitty quiets his thoughts more than any pill ever did.
And there’s more. There’s so much more. Jack being the spontaneous romantic that gets Bitty laughing and crying every time, and Bitty making Jack’s heart swell with all the little things. How Bitty is like a goddamn sunshine when he walks into the room and Jack is the ocean in the middle of the night, strong and intense and beautiful. They fit so well together and it is so, so wonderful to see.

I think this is a lovely piece of art. I would rather look at something like this piece of art than at photos of actual guys "doing it." I think this is beautiful. :)
