Yeah, they do, but there was a place near me that had a lot of old school pictures right in the window, and in some of them the faces look like they should be around today, which is also wierd.

But this picture, I do agree there is something especially creepy and spooky about them.
I don't know what, but something about them. ???

I think it's the blank, unsmiling stare. At least I think that's what freaks me out. I remember my Grandmother telling me about these pictures. Grandma was born in 1906, and she told me they had to sit perfectly still for approximately 30 seconds as the picture was taken. They had a thing called a "birdie" the photographer would hold up. They were told to "look at the birdie" while the camera's shutter was opened, exposing the film. We sure have come a long way from "looking at the birdie" to digital cameras.  :D

Also do you notice there is one black child in this class?  It looks like this is 1920.  This picture was defineatly not taken down South thats for sure!  Does it say Stewartville, Ohio?

Cameron:
I just went back to the picture, it comes from the Carnegie Mellon U. web site.  I think it does say Stewartville, Ohio.  That does make sense, I guess its right next to Pittsburgh, the address on the web site.

I wondered about the black kid too.  Even for the north I can't imagine many schools were intergrated then.

Can you imagine, if any of these people are still alive they would be about 103.

What an interesting picture, I guess that's why it was posted. But they do all look rather sad.

OMG, I am have CNN right now and the anchor just said, "And now we are going to Mexico, Mexico N.Y. I mean"

And there is the reporter now  in the snow in Mexico, NY.  (I never knew there was one.)
But the way the anchor said it, he surely must be a Brokie. ::)
