Not to rub it in or anything, but Heath's not even going back to Australia to promote "Candy." Staying in NY to take care of the baby, is the official reason, but I also think he's still pissed about the guys with the water pistols.

So he ought to be. That whole thing was such a farce. I think if the worst that happens to those papparazzi vultures is that they get spat on by the relative of somebody who's had a gutful of being stalked, they consider themselves lucky. I couldn't cope with a lens in my face like those guys have to.
That's what pisses me off about Australian media though - they're happy to cheer on "their own" overseas, a la Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman et al, but the second those stars stop kissing their arses and insist on a little well deserved privacy, the media turn on them. I know the background with that water pistol scenario, but the whole thing stinks of "tall poppy syndrome" which is rife in this country, unfortunately. This may not be confined only to Australian media, but its a horrible aspect of our culture all the same. Poor Heath... I wouldn't be in a hurry to return neither...

You know a friend of mine who's Zimbabwean (sp?) by way of South Africa who currently lives in London knows this expression as well. A tall poppy sticks its head above the rest in the field of flowers and gets its head lopped off to knock it back down to size.
Don't stand out, in other words.
