Condom Country cowboys

Andrew:
I never saw or heard about this 2001 public service video on Canada's OutTV.  That's the great thing about Youtube - this stuff gets found and republished there!

injest:
ok...WE loved it...LOL!!

Andrew:
You mean...14 views and one reply? (as of the present?) :)

Even though there was a definite quality of spoof (and I think Philip Morris had SOME grounds to comment on the references to their 'intellectual property' -- such as the text and font of the words -- I think the spot was using it to make a very valid point about diversity among cowboys.  Including ethnic diversity.

injest:
I liked that they had different guys on there...it was a cute spot..

but also kinda tender...when he cupped the guys chin? that was sweet to me.

Andrew:
I just want to know why the one was pounding a fence post on a fence that already had the rails in it! Something a little unconvincing there.  They didn't know a hyperanalytical BBM crowd would ever be looking at it.  Jess, I know you know how you would build or fix that kind of fence!

I liked a couple things which may have been unintentional but actually gave a more realistic, less ad-perfect look to it.  Like that cheap, shapeless cotton glove.  Or the strips of fluorescent lights in the stable.

Given that there were these little semi-spoofs circulating before the film, it's less surprising that there was all that pre-film hysteria about queering the cowboy image.  They weren't prepared for a full-length story, that was not a spoof.
