Hey everyone--check it out! Could it be that BBM has had more impact than we ever might have guessed?

  I LOVE THIS!!

THANKS belgianboy.

There were only two of them on the mountain flying in the euphoric, bitter air, looking down on the hawks back and crawling lights of vehicles on the plain below....they believed themselves invisible.   A. Proulx

Thanks, Bird. Whole country looks a bit more pleasant than a few days ago...

(Hope you don't mind if I call you Bird...)

Yes, my thanks too for posting this, BelgianBoy!  I've been scanning political news articles for a couple of days, and it's amazing how frequently there are allusions to our beloved 'gay cowboy movie.'  They're not all positive, but to my way of thinking, that's OK.  This goes to show how deeply Brokeback Mountain has invaded our national consciousness, whether it's bringing gay rights issues to the front of the debate or skewing the cowboy archetype just enough to cause some discomfort - and thereby provoke some thought, hopefully.

I'm going to use this thread to post a few I've run across, if that's OK.  But I think yours is the best I've seen yet by far!

Thanks again,
Lynne

"These were stunning results, particularly in the Senate. It showed how bad things were for the Republicans when they spent the early hours of yesterday hoping that a few cowboys in Montana (presumably not the Brokeback Mountain type) might save their bacon in that chamber. How George Allen in Virginia managed to blow that state is a mystery well beyond anything that the world of fiction could envisage."

And a completely WRONG prediction:

CRAIG WINNEKER, Editor, This Europe
...It will all come down to turnout. Yawn. What an election-eve cliché. What it really comes down to is which party will be better able to suppress the potential voting activities of its opponent. One big question mark: will the clandestinely-gay-fundamentalist-Christian-dad vote be mobilized or discouraged by recent news events? I think when push comes to shove these guys will descend from Brokeback Mountain and swarm polling places. They'll probably give Conrad Burns another six years.

I really think Brokeback Mountain has somethin' to do with the result of this election.  I think people's mind have been changed by this movie and the story of our boys.  Could you imagine how many more minds could change if everyone watches this movie?
