The list was rather lame.  A rather xenaphobic an unintellectual listing of films in my opinion.... Wouldn't a real movie buff have seen some Bergman, Kurosawa, Tarkovsky, Fellini or Truffaut films?

I'm pist, it didn't have Brokeback Mountain on the list.  And a real movie buff would have seen BBM. It was so talked about that you had to have see it, even if the subject matter was a turn-off, just to see what the big fuss was all about.

I think the list was compiled by pro Crash Academy Members.

MAGNOLIA is a good film.  It definately grows on you.   I've never seen Lord of the Rings and Silence of the Lambs and don't plan on it. I've seen excerpts from both, and the subject matter didn't engage me.

I recently saw Citizen Kane on DVD.  What's the big deal with that film. Interesting camera shots, revolutionary photo angles, great bogus news reel, things of that nature, but I rather Gone With the Wind.

I find it very ethnocentric, too.  No foreign films whatsoever?  WTF?  They at least had the indie bases somewhat covered.  But sex, lies and videotape and all the Coen brothers' films were conspicuously absent.

BTW, The Silence of the Lambs is actually a very good movie.  Excellent drama.  Most of the violence is implied not shown.  Great psychological thriller.

You are a movie buff of the most obsessive variety. If a movie exists, chances are that you've seen it.
You're an expert on movie facts and trivia. It's hard to stump you with a question about film.

Yes the list was defintely narrow in scope. And a "real" buff would have seen films by everyone you mentioned, plus BBM. (The Coen Bros. did "The Big Lebowski," one of my all-time fave flicks.) The Lord of the Rings trilogy is really worth the trip.  "Silence of the Lambs," was taut with suspense, really excellent.

It's hard to look back at a film like "Citizen Kane," which was created nearly 70 ago and appreciate how revolutionary all the camera shots were as was Truffaut's signature "freeze frame shot." Rather like trying to imagine how excited everyone was about a plane flying from the States to Europe when now men have been to the moon.
