Plus Nicks honesty at the straight bar might turn around and get him outed to his parents sooner than he thinks.

He already came out to his parents ..
They didnt beleive him, but they can't argue that he never told them, he did.

all very true.  Thus his psychological reason for outing himself to one of his father's patients in a public bar.

SPOILER

Poor Paula.  Not her first "pity' date from a gay man? Eeeek!  It wasn't a pity date, but I don't suppose knowing that it was an ill-advised-desperate-last-ditch-desperate-attempt-to-deny-sexuality-date would be much comfort.  And as Ellery pointed out to Ennis - they have to work with this woman!   Dupree really should have listened to Ennis, but I guess there's that dang human nature thing again -we have to learn things the hard way.  He was able to come out at the bar to Wayne, but then I guess the conditions were a little more conducive.

Very interesting tie-in at the Carousel Bar with the upcoming trial, Lauren's father, and Nick coming out.   Wondeirng how that will all play out!  Great chapter as always, Louise.

Thanks, Marie

I kinda know how Jeremy feels, I denied being queer for a long, long time and coming out to my wife was hard, but fortunately we're still friends.  Since Paula's "gaydar" was working overtime, I hope she can still remain on a friendly basis with Dupree and retain the ally in him she needs in the Sherrif's Dept. I'm really looking forward to reading more!
