How's it hangiing today? ;D
Just finished a health class with the grade 6 - talking first aid, what to do when there's a 'situation' and dropped the bombshell about having to send for help when my sister was hit by a car while she & I were riding our bikes out in the middle of nowhere. I was alone with her at the time, and had the driver of the car go call for an ambulance. (yea - he had to leave the scene of the crime! - no choice).
My sister died two days later. She was 13. This was some 30 years ago.
Classroom was real quiet there for a while!

Hey Sheriff!
So far so good!
I'm so sorry to hear that about your Sister.
Thats horrible. I'm sure that had a lasting affect on you.
If nothing else it drove home the point about learing first aid.
Sheriff Roland:
Yea that's pretty much my point behind bringing personal experiences as examples in my teaching. Makes it more real, specially for those 11 year olds!
Funny thing, the homeroom teacher was at her desk during this exchange (as she often does), and she joked about my being 22 years old (she frequently keeps the classroom lively with fun comments) once upon a time, long long ago (that's how I started this part of the lesson) and even though I'm sure she'd heard this part of the story before, I'm sure she felt uncomfortable about the turn of the lesson right after that. (When I was 22, I was out riding with my sister on our bikes on this seldom used road, and ...)
I have a very good relationship with that teacher.

I can see that. It's good you have a good relationship with her. Otherwise she may have freaked out.
