any big plans today? I have a graduation to go to this evening. My niece is 'graduating' from eighth grade. I do not remember doing that for D!! when did they start celebrating the eighth grade??!

I found that odd too but they were doing it here 20 years ago at my school. Only got rid of the practice when they cancelled grades 7 and 8 at our school. (They now go to high school starting in grade 7 - as is the practice in Québec. Intermediate schools {grades 7 and 8} are also popular in public schools here in Ontario.)
Don't remember what they did in the english schools here in Toronto. I did teach in them for 7 years and don't remember any grade 8 graduations then.

I would have had an 8th grade graduation ceremony at my grammar school in New Orleans in 1961, but I transferred to another school in 7th grade which went all the way to High School (grade 12).
We did have a graduation ceremony from Kindergarten!

I had a niece graduate from Kindergarten too! I think it is just a ploy to make me buy more gifts!!!!
