Annie Proulx, in her novel Accordion Crimes, described the accordion's music as a sound of "misery suppressed, injustices born, strength in adversity, endurance."
At a lecture in Boulder, Colorado, last year, she named this novel as her "best work" and said that she spent months researching before beginning the writing.
