This is our cherry tree. We have only a very little garden and only one tree in it. Obviously it was planted long before our time and it came with the house. At first, I wasn't very euphoric about it, because it shades nearly the whole garden in summer. But it would have been a shame to cut it off.
Meanwhile I have grown fond of it because I love our own, home-made cherry-jam. And I love the ritual of making it. The whole family strips all clothes off, because it's a huge mess and cherry stains are not removeable from clothes. The oldest child and my husband pick the cherries, while the younger children and I start removing the stones from the cherries. Whoa! After a while we all look like we had been in a bloody massacre.
Then my oldest puts the cherries through the
wringer meat mincing machine and my husband cooks the jam.
Even after showering and washing hands multiple times, we all have lilac hands for days
.
But it's all worth it, this is the best cherry-jam you can get in the world
