It's a long trip alone over sand and stone
That lie along the road that we all must travel down

So maybe you could walk with me a while
And maybe I could rest beneath your smile
Everybody stumbles sometimes and needs a hand to hold
'Cause it's a long trip alone

It's a short piece of time but just enough to find
A little peace of mind under the sun somewhere

So maybe you could walk with me a while
And maybe I could rest beneath your smile
You know we can't afford to let one moment pass us by
'Cause it's a short piece of time

And I don't know where I'd be without you here
'Cause I'm not really me without you there

Yea Yeah
Hallelujah hallelujah oh

So maybe you could walk with me a while
Maybe I could rest beneath your smile
Everybody stumbles sometimes and needs a hand to hold

So maybe you could walk with me a while
Maybe I could rest beneath your smile
Maybe I could feel right beside you 'til I'm home
'Cause it's a long trip alone

Fleetwood Mac - Landslide

I took my love and I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
And the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky--what is love?
Can the child in my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin'...ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
I don't know.....I don't know...

Well I've been afraid of changin'
Because I've built my life around you
But time makes us bolder; children get older
I'm getting older too....

So, take this love...take it down.
Oh, if you climb a mountain and you turn around
and you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills...
well, the landslide will bring you down;
The landslide will bring you down...

OK, so I was in my car driving to the grocery store after work today when I heard "Landslide" on the radio.  And, I had a serious, major Brokie moment.   I almost started crying with how much this song reminds me of Ennis (and BBM in general).

The two lines: Well I've been afraid of changin'/ Because I've built my life around you really make me think of the scene by the lake when Ennis says "it's because of you that I'm like this" to Jack.  I've always thought of that accusation as particularly cruel.  But, in a way, maybe Ennis is really telling Jack that his whole life really has been constructed around their relationship.  Anyway, it's a beautiful song, and of course all the references to mountains and snow also are really evocative of BBM.

I agree Amanda!
That was a heart - breaking moment in the movie.
But I think Jack took it the way you said or in a similar manner.
I think he knew it was just Ennis blowing off steam that he had held in for so long.
The way Ennis latched on to him finally when Jack came over shows how much he needed him I think.
It's a song that definitely fits with the movie!
