I will be restarting coverage this evening with a whole mess more video to bring you. I've been struggling with some important content from the Nine TV Network in Australia today, but hopefully by this evening will have that available to everyone.
As the initial news wears off, we can next anticipate comments from those who knew Heath, as well as the usual rampant speculation about how and why he died. This continues to be a very major story, displacing the economy and the presidential campaign on most news sites, although not as much on cable news, which as I've always said, cancelled actual news long ago. It's cheaper to have Pat Buchanan scream his head off with Chris Matthews and other pundits on cheap-to-produce political shows on MSNBC, Lou Dobbs to rail against the Mexicans on CNN, and Fox News to get back to the missing and murdered white women. But the latter does have access to sensationalist news partners, so you will get more coverage on Fox than most others.
Which is why I am digging to find additional content and reaction to bring.....

My apologies for the delay in getting you additional content from Australian television. Australian media has been covering Heath wall-to-wall, and it's seen as a major tragedy across the country, especially in Western Australia (they'll refer to it as "WA" in press reports.) The Nine Network has had excellent coverage, but completely non-standard video encoders, so I've had to spend a considerable part of today re-encoding this content for you to enjoy. An unfortunate side effect is a slight sync problem between the sound and picture, but considering the depth of coverage, I felt it was something people could overlook.
If you find YouTube video coverage containing news accounts, you can add to this collection. Just click the YouTube button (second row of buttons in the editor, second from the left, labeled YouTube). It will place two commands in the editor in between brackets [] On YouTube, just grab the URL of the video (not the embed command) and place it between the first command [ youtube=425,350]http://insert the url here[ /youtube]. Ignore the extra spaces I put in the commands, of course. The editor may ask you to include some text with your YouTube clip (it might say message body empty), so just put some quick text in the editor before or after the YouTube command.
Nine Network - Initial Breaking News coverage - Here is how Australia first got the news...
When I read "was" in the articles, my mind shouts WRONG!
I know Chrissi. I can't get my head around the fact that I've been reading articles these last two days with the words 'Heath Ledger' 'dead' and 'autopsy' all in once sentence.
It's WRONG!!

I am just wondering if anyone knows the source for the time of death statement? I am just curious, and hope no one is offended by my question.

This concludes the retrospective coverage of the Heath Ledger tragedy and the more frenetic clip posting on this matter. I think until significant information is forthcoming, we're likely to see a lot of repetition in coverage.
I hope this coverage was a useful resource.

I haven't been able to bring myself to look at these until now, - it's been to difficult especially with all the hectic "substance abuse" talk the newscasts have seen fit to focus on - but I've looked at a number of them now when I can stand it, and I'm very grateful you've collected all these. Thank you. :)

There will be further updates, but I'm being more conservative about it - looking for the stuff that breaks new ground instead of making us wallow in a Spec-U-Plex of guesswork. And I had to throw in the shrew Nancy "I Know What You Did Last Summer" Grace just to show she's back to her usual irritating behavior.

Says a lot, hunh? I've never seen that show, but if it's about metaphoric weasels and dirt, I love that the guy pointed out that Heath didn't have the entry fee in his pocket for it.

It is a satire show that makes fun of the weeks entertainment news, shows that have aired, etc....they did make some jokes about BBM when it came out but I dont' remember them ever saying anything about Heath Ledger as a person....(unlike say, Britney or Mel Gibson....people that make the news for idiotic comments or actions)

"Stop digging through the dirt, weasels"... I love that! I've never watched that show and don't even know what it is, but that was classy and dignified. It does my heart good.

I am building up another pile of video clips, but I probably won't get to post them until tomorrow because of my schedule today and tonight. A lot will focus on how the media bungled this whole story from the beginning, which has upset a lot of folks. Stay tuned.

Was just at the Dark Knight Site and the have a tribute to Heath up. Very simple but ponigant none the less. Also read that Terry Gilliam is going forward with finishing the film as he will dedicate it to his friend Heath as reported in People Magazine www.people.com/people/article/0,,20174404,00.html

I'm so glad they are continuing this movie. I really didn't want his "last role" to be The Joker.

CNN Reliable Sources - An Excellent Look at Media Excess On The Heath Ledger Tragedy
N.B. - I don't have an embedded version of this program at this time, so you will need to download it to watch, and it's the entire one hour show. If you advance to 30:30, the Heath story begins (watch a few minutes earlier for an insightful interview with Keith Olbermann). This program is in .m4v format, which means it will work instantly in iTunes. You can also watch it in Apple Quicktime. If I can embed it, I'll modify this message.
Warning: 204mb download - Recommended: Save file to your computer and play locally - Just click link below to start download.
Daniel Day-Lewis is one of my all-time favourite actors. This gives me one more reason to adore him.

Heath Ledger Song -- Written for Heath Ledger
From: YouTube subscriber jennykelly22
Added: January 29, 2008
Heath Ledger's family rightfully conducted a private funeral for the beloved actor. But when his face, voice, personality, and spirit came into our living rooms, Heath became, in some way, our friend, too.
This song was written with Heath's artstic history in mind. In his short career, Ledger's characters promoted tolerance and empathy; he may have done more for gay rights than any actor to date.
The song was also written for fans. It is an attempt to understand how we can love someone we've never known, how we feel loss from afar, and, in a disjointed world, how connected we can feel to those who challenge us to become better human beings.
SONG FOR HEATH LEDGER REBECCA F. 2008
Where you been, baby? Where you been, my boy? Been waiting here for hours But you are not home.
They tell me that it's the end of you. They tell me that your life is through.
But how can you kill something that's so unearthly? How can you die when you're still alive?
So where you been, baby? Where you been, my boy? Been lookin' all over for you But all I hear is noise.
They tell me I'll never see you again. They tell me that it's the end.
But how can you kill something that's so unearthly? How can you die when you're everyone's friend? How can we ever thank you for your mercy? Strong enough to take a stand in the end.
How can you die when you're unearthly? How can the wind not bring you back again? How can we thank you for your mercy? How can we, when you're everyone's friend?
