Oooh, I like the mustache, though! :D
Reminds me that somewhere we used to have a photo of my great-grandfather. Put it next to a photo of my first cousin Charlie and they could be the same person.

Shut the drapes and come back to bed.
You always know the right thing to say! ;) ;D
-
Your cat is gorgeous! Boy or girl? I can't remember.
Let me tell you, if you don't know already, there is something daggone special about tabby-cats...
All cats are 'freaks' on the inside. They don't know about normal. They sometimes know about 'behaving' and they have 'image' issues, but they are never 'normal.'
That's what makes them great!
-
Deffinalty female, wild cat. i am going to get me a video camera so I can make a youtube of her pulling the table cloth off on her.
-
Does she do it frequently?
By the way, your photos from your backyard are lovely...I love fall.
-

She is constantly into something. She will be rasslin with something and then fight her tail, and then take off running.
-
ahh, the escapades of the young, uninhibited by dogs in the household... do you have a stern name for her when you need to fuss? my word is "Cat" as in, "Cat, what in the hell do you think you're doing?" I think I use that word because she has ceased to remember she is a domesticated creature, and is being her primal self.
-
Worse than a 6 year old who has been in the sugar bowl.
-
Okay, what do you get when Chuck does not stand up to someone (like that would happen) and we all gather round and give him a hard time about it? :
-

lmao!
Oh Tru, you are too funny!
but to be honest, standing up for myself is a more recent phenomena than you think.
-
At least you are not a Boston Butt Truman ;)
-
Which leads me to my next question: can you get Boston Butt in Assinipi, Massachusetts?
-
That may be more the thought of the day, than the question. of the day or the pic.
-
Your right, I posted it in the wrong place, but I am just gone leave it be.
-
Which leads me to my next question: can you get Boston Butt in Assinipi, Massachusetts?
Not sure, but I think I know what one can get in Gay Head (Martha's Vineyard).

My Sassy
The kat thingy. I used to have a cat, that i gave to Michelle when I moved back to Ore.
She still has her. The cat is now 13rs old. And when she was young. She was insane...she would
be sweet and loving and calm, and all of a sudden she would start to hunker down, her eyes would
glaze over (i swear) and she would absolutely start to flip out. She would run up and down the hall
way climbing the walls at times, come running thru the house up on the back of the couch on her
toes like a halloween kitty. Then jump in the air, and hiss at you...she would carry on like this for
about ten mins...and if you didnt know she was in one of these moods...you would get scratched
up pretty good. I used to have claw marks all on my legs until she outgrew this...
She just might be the smartest cat i have ever seen though....she is using up all of her
nine lives. I wonder at the fact she is still alive. She is a mellow and sweet kitty all the time now.
Maybe Kelly could tell us if there is a known cat syndrome like that.

Hey Janice, what you describe sounds like "normal," albeit bizarre to us humans, cat behavior. My beloved orange tabby, Gabriel, would display such behavior at times (usually after a bowel movement)... one of my current kitties does such things on occasion - mostly in the evening. Cats are the most recently domesticated of all of our domesticated animals. They agree to live in our homes with us, but they still have lots of primal, feral, predatory instincts. That being said, most "house cats" don't get to exercise or hunt on a daily basis as they would in the wild. These displays of bizarre behavior are merely an outlet for what I guess you could call "cabin fever."
However, truly bizarre behavior can be sign of a more serious medical problem (e.g. brain tumor), where the bizarre behavior can be a manifestation of a seizure, or even possibly obsessive/compulsive disorder. The episodes you describe in your cat all sound predatory to me - though your cat sounds like she was pretending to be the one hunted rather than the huntress. How to distinguish a "normal" bizarre behavior from a "bizarre" bizarre behavior? Ask a vet if you're not sure! ;) There is also a syndrome in cats called "hyperesthesia" - this basically means extra-sensitive, and is an overreactive response to normal stimulation. For example, you rub your cat under the chin as you normally would, and unexpectedly your cat tries to bite you and then runs away and hides. This is usually a manifestation of a medical problem - the cat is hurting or otherwise unwell, and expresses it by overreacting to touch. The medical problems that can cause hyperesthesia are varied, and I'm sure everyone has had enough of a veterinary lesson by now!

I took this Wednesday on my rounds:
-
Thanks Kell, seems like she may have still been a bit over the top with her behavior...but the
cooped up stuff may have had some to do with it...
Sorry we hijacked your thread Sweetie...begging your pardon.... ;D
-
Anybody is welcome to do what ever they want here. ;D

This one is called 30 minutes in my driveway:
-
I have noticed the acorns seems to be falling from the trees with much greater vigor this year than in years past... sometimes you have to be careful not to slip there are so many underfoot...
-
My whole yard looks like that. As welll as our side of the street, and the culdesac. But,
my husband wont get the leaf blower out and clean it up..He says, "I like the look of fall,
don't you?" :-X
-
Oh, nice pic, Tru!
-
Here go some late season roses. This is a old bush planted by a lady who rented the house for 30 years who has now gone to a nursing home:
-
Unexpected you were.
An oddity to be sure.
I would have never thought
In my years advancing,
To be surprised by the new bloom of possibility
And frozen loves.
Unexpected you are
Winter Rose.
-
That is sweet Scott. I hope winter roses for you as well.
-
Do all of us gay men like roses??
I know that I do! But even if I planted yellow ones, I never got them to grow, why?
Should I get as the song says: Yellow rose of texas??
Hugs!
-
I would say generally so, except for the ones who are allergic to them.
-
My husband isnt gay...At least that I know of..he loves roses...Other flowers as well. I buy him flowers
every once in a while...he loves it...
-
Lucky him!
May I be your husband?
Hugs!

Yeah it is that little thingy inside the exhaust, some kind of restrictor. The bad asses (like my neighbors) take it out so they can be real loud.

Poor Dana Plato. I felt so sorry for her. What a sad turn her young life took.

Their parents really used them as money making vehicles, same thing with Lee Ann Rimes, but she turned out better I think.

Sometimes, you just have to be late for an appointment:
-
Thank you for the beautiful fall photos. Living here in Florida for the most part trees are green all year. The trees in these pictures are just so nice to see.
-
God, those pics are soooo pretty!
-
I know there is no snow in those, but it made me think of this poem by Frost
STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
-
Maybe we'll get some snow this year, and I can post some snow pics.

Sometimes, you just have to be late for an appointment:

Never Enough Time, Never Enough!! :-\
-
I love Fall! I created mainly Automne scenes in my paintings!
But snow ones are rare. I did so far a few this 2007 year like two duos, which can be of snow; also the opposite seems so too to many spectators.
And would like one day paint a scene of two men for: WHAT ARE YOU WAINTING FOR COWBOY? A MATING CALL? !! This early 2007, I created for an exhibition in Brazil, one painting of two devils with very long tails... which amused many in my Canada exhibitions in 2007, but also it was sent instead of South America (without my knowledge) to France which was exhibited in an year 1400 cathedrale with stain glass, but which shocked me... and pleased me afterwards when I found out that French gentlemen and ladies did enjoy it very much!!
And to-day life goes on... as I wonder what I will create next (maybe some of my dreams last night as scenes??)!!
Hugs!
-
I think your idea for the 2 cowboy painting is a wonder one, Artiste. Where do most of your ideas come from for your paintings?

-
I also really like Chuck's girl ;D
I don't know who the hell she is, but damn, those expressions are funny as hell. She looks so stupid....

She is priceless for sure. She kind of reminds me of what they call a Valley Girl.

Jack I think I got it here someplace, and I have the vaguest recollection southendmd had something to do with it but I might be wrong.

Another look back to San Francisco.
-
Great picture Truman. Looking back to San Francisco is a great thing. I had so much fun out there. I loved the place and the people who were there. It was a spectacular time that I will always remember. I still remember the first night we were there and we all went to breakfast over at Mel's. That was the first time I ever really met you and Richard. I couldn't believe there were other southern Brokies :)
-
Hey Jack, I look back on that trip sometimes like my most suscessful navagation of a wirlwind, because it went so fast and was so sensory overloaded.
Now, it is like an easter egg hunt, Janice has left me little presents all over the place, and I am tickled to death.
Actually, I'm a little misty eyed. 8)
-
Awww you are so sweet. I feel the same way every time I look at photos..
I am just wondering if you will be able to find them alll....??
-
Here is a pic from Richmond, near the VCU campus:
-
Now that is odd. Do you know what its supposed to be...maybe openair art.....? ???
-
It is the legacy of hundreds of flyers being stapled to a phone pole, and now mysteriously the practice abandoned.
-
Love the pic of you and Paul, Truman! Reminds me of our last breakfast in Alberta. 8)
-
Another look back to San Francisco.
What a great picture!
I love seeing those but it makes me realize how much Imiss everyone I met there.
Truman you said it best, it felt like home. Never before have I met a group of people and felt so at ease.
The feeling is indescribeable! From meeting Truman in the Airport (I still can't believe we were onthe same flight and were the last to be able to change our seats so we could sit together) then ridingtothe hotel with Judy (that was an adventure). Then having Lunch with Judy and watching all our other family members form better most file in.
The people I have met the things I have seen the changes in my life........
I can't accept that it's all coincidence and it all "just happened" for no reason.
-
How nice to see that picture, Janice! Thanks for that. I believe we're standing outside of "All American Boy", which says it all. :)
-
;D I believe your right, Paul!
-
and I am tickled to death.
did someone call?
-
Give it your best shot Chuckie, I think you wore out my tickle nerves in SF!
-
Oh Lord!
The tickling bandit strikes again!!
-
Give it your best shot Chuckie, I think you wore out my tickle nerves in SF!
geeez......I tickled you ONCE! lmao
-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuckles
It is an obsession I can not quench
To grab someone and start to pinch
I love it when they twist and wiggle
Then they always begin to giggle
To tickle is my favorite thing
Next to hearing Madonna sing
So if you happen to walk by
Don't look up into the sky
If im around, I will see
And you will not escape me
I wrote him a tickle poem .......... ;)
-
;D ;D ;D
You hit that nail on the head Janice!
That's our Chuckie!

It seems that way to me many times too Truman :) You are right it went so fast that sometimes I wonder if it was real. For me it was fulfilling a childhood dream that continued on. Easter egg hunts are fun and especially so if Janice is behind them. I tell Janice all the time how special she is and she really is. She is an incredible person!!!
-
My goodness Jack that is one of the sweetest thing in the world to say. Thank you Very Much. :-*
-
It is quite true Janice. I think you bring a lot of sunshine to everyone on here. Well, I know that.

Truer words were never spoken!! ;D

Jack is a sweet guy, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. I am not doing anything with my wrist when I say it. ;)
-
lmao!
-
Thanks Truman and Chuck!!! I definitely feel the same way about both of you. You are both great guys and I am glad to have great friendships with both of you. And I'm not doing anything with my wrist either ;D
-
Okay, I did manage to do something with my day, I filmed my cat and posted it on YouTube:

You know that cat was doing everything in its power to try and ignore that thing..it just
couldnt do it.. hahahaha...
You all make my days...thank you for all the wonderful things you say...i love you too...
but you all knew that. Ok maybe I did use my wrist, just a little...hee
Not that there is anything wrong with that!!!

Here is a video of the Xmess light show in my town. I like the comment someone posted about it "It looks like Christmas threw up all over Fieldale". No audio.

-
Wow, that's a lot of lights. I don't quite get the helicopter though. Is Santa in there? It looks like he could arrive by train as well. Also, I saw a zombie run across the yard once and another zombie run up the stairs of the house :) It sure does look like your town goes all out. Do you have a lot of decorations up?
-
There's a famous (infamous) house near where I work in Jamaica Plain, MA that turns heads with its Christmas lights. The house itself looks like some sort of castle.
The guy has approx. half a million lights, and this year he put a "crown" on top. I heard that his electric bill last year was $1100 a month. The house is on a busy parkway, and the city wants to force him to have a police detail!
I found a short video:

-
That is amazing, I always admire people who can do that, if I put up a decoration it is permanent, so I don;t do the Xmess stuff.
-
I have a few blue lights on the front of the house, a small fiber optic tree that I got a few years ago and a few Christmas houses. I have several of those houses, but I didn't drag all of them out this year. I may drag out the fiber optic wreath if I can find it ;) Last year I actually had a live tree. I thought about it this year, but it is much to close to Christmas now to worry about it.

LOL. Well, that's what I call a "typo" -- not a real mistake!! ;D
-
Except that the meaning of my sentence was completely different than what I meant since in that context "Not" means a lot diffferent than "Now" considering that the whole idea was that I felt I was getting more into the Christmas spirit by bringing the houses out not putting them back up ;D

 I guess I was using context clues because I comprehended your drift the way you meant it.

I am glad I got a scanner a while back. Now I can enjoy this $20 bill I got in my change recently, and still spend it. It just renews hope in me that this unknown person paid back his debts before buying
"Dope".

  you crack me up...what a heart warming sentiment.

Wonder what John did? He owes him a lot. I suppose it wasn't related to dope since he has that as another category.
-
If you look at the otther side of the $20, it says "Dope- 25.00" so perhaps he was able to increase what he spent when he did his budget.

Either way, I doubt he bought very much. :-\

Okay, if you have about 8 minutes, here is a poor quality video of friends cutting down an Oak Tree last Saturday. Yes, that is me hollering in the back ground & singing.
The tree was killed by lightning last summer, and was dropping limbs. Otherwize it would have been left alone.

Who is that supposed to be Jess? Am I stupid here. Missing the obvious.??

I am sorry...it is the tree that Truman's friends cut down the other day....a screen cap, once I 'saw' the eye and mouth that was all I could see (reminded me of the ax in Beauty and the Beasts Christmas Special from Disney)

Great day, that is cool. I hated to see that tree come down but I would have really hated seeing a limb fall on my car.
Scott, did you wrte Bette Davis and she write you back? If so, what did you write about?
My friend Chuck, not Cellardweller, this one is dead, he lived in LA for a while and had to deliver flowers to her once. She lived on the third floor of this place and the elevator was not working so he carried them up the stairs and she came to the door with a drink in her hand and said: "Bring the God Damn flowers in here!" and gestured grandly with her drink.
-
I love that...So Bette Davis. Its the kind of story you always heard about her...Just like the
parts she always played....... :-\

Yep, that is classic Bette Davis :)

I think that Monday's picture of the day will be the Afro Icon: O0
Because I always wanted to use it and never found a place I felt like it would be proper, and perhaps I just assigned too much to it, I just didn't want to be disrespectful.
So I am gone proclaim Monday, 31 December 2007, Afro Icon Day. I plan on using it conspiciously.

Still doesnt explain the billboard. ?????????????

http://www.myconfinedspace.com/2007/06/22/a-cure-for-being-asian/ (http://www.myconfinedspace.com/2007/06/22/a-cure-for-being-asian/)
Here is what Truth Ministry says about this:
“A photo of our Greenville billboard has recently been doctored by someone and posted on a national website. It is now being distributed around the country. It now reads: “Are you Asian and don’t want to be?” The words above the doctored billboard say that this is a parody. I understand the meaning behind the parody. It is to imply that homosexuals do not choose to be gay any more than do Asians choose to be Asian. To this point I would almost agree....
-
I didnt find that when I googled,,,i found the one i posted. ? wonder why the discrepancy?
ALMOST AGREE? What does that mean........? im not sure i believe them, and their so called
doctored story...
-
I think someone was trying to show that their bulletin board about homosexuality was insulting because it was about as effective as trying to change one's heritage. A rebuttal of sorts.
For my google search I typed in "truth ministry are you asian and don't want to be". That's probably why we got different results.
-
Very ambiguous to say the least...if you are trying to make a point on a billboard..I would say it
should be very solid an easily understood. That is the whole point of a billboard...people can see in from a
car and get it driving by...Not have to figure out the mysterious message....however it was chosen, I would
say it was badly conceived.
-
Really? I found it to be a very clever parody of the ex-gay thing.
-
What was the first thing that made you think it was about gays?
It appeared to be about race to me, until Shasta posted the hidden agenda
-
What was the first thing that made you think it was about gays?
It appeared to be about race to me, until Shasta posted the hidden agenda
Well, the utter absurdity of the words. Fill in "any race" for Asian, it's still absurd. It clearly goes to the notion that one is born a certain way, no ministry can change that. To me, it clearly mocks the ex-gay stance.
I suppose that at the same time, it is racist as well. As if there's something wrong with being Asian that anyone would want to change.
-
personally I dont see anything wrong with it at all. I could have used a few more brain cells. Specially
in the math department..They seem to be smarter than me for sure...
but I dont see anything wrong with being gay either...the only problem with it is other peoples that do
have problems with it...
Maybe I am experiencing backlash at this point...i get my dander up anytime i am confronted by prejudice, of
any kind..be it gay or racial, or gender or whatever....
-
It's funny how some of us saw the "gay" idea right away and some of us didn't. That was the first thing I thought of too, but my initial thought was that it meant something bad about gay people. In other words, Asians are born Asians, but Gays are not born Gay. I have a bad way of seeing the word "ministry" and thinking they are going to say something bad about gay people. I guess that has a lot to do with where I am from.
-
The first thing I thought of when I saw that was it's a "spoof" or parody of the "ex gay" misistries.
Whoever manipulated the photo did a good job. Not sure that an actual billboard like that would float.
-
That billboard is too much puzzling!!
Yes, but too, too much otherwise too like racist??
Who changed that? What was the original? That?
Hugs!

*Rubs eyes*
I think I'm seeing double! :o
Well I will take that as a compliment. I could look like Eleanor Roosevelt, bless her heart.
Okay, the story:
Back 15 or so years ago, my friends Alicia and Steve went to Key West. I learned about this trip when I got a slip in my P.O. Box that I had a package too large that would have to be picked up at the counter. The package was a coconut, wrapped it plastic, with my name and address and a greeting from Alicia and Steve. Wrapped up in plastic and sent thru the mail.
I had known the town had a strong connection to President Truman. I knew there was a street named for him and a few months later when I saw Alicia she presented me with a framed picture of the sign in front of the Truman Adult Books and Video store on Truman Street. She said they had been cruising around town and came upon it and had to ride all the way around town to get back and take the picture. It sits now in my kitchen atop a long disused turntable type stereo.
2008: Here we are in Key West, just left Chicos Cantina and running on Margaritas, riding down Truman Street, retracing footsteps, taking a picture of Truman Real Estate, the Margaret Truman Laundrette and it crossed my mind, wonder if the Adult Video place is still here. Bang, right there is was on the left. The sign I had seen for so many years suddenly became a real thing in a real world. It was like seeing one of the filming sites in Alberta. I whipped the pimpmobile into the empty parking lot and we went in.
If you have never been to one of these places, it is like this: hundreds and hundreds of DVDs of porn straight and gay, a few sex toys, a few lubes and other novelties, and a "back room" area where one can view porn in a small booth. It was well lit, staffed by a young gay white man conversing with an older black man who appeared to be homeless. Right next to them I saw it: the rack with ball caps.
The young man asked me if I wanted tokens for the peep shows in the back and I was like "Nah, do you take plastic?"
"Well yes we do!"
"Good" I said, "I want this hat" and I handed him my card, giggling, and said: "Look at the name".
The young man looked at it and looked at me and smiled and asked if I were related to the President. I told him I was not to my knowledge, and he told me that a week earlier a group of people who said they were his family had come in the store, laughing and having a good time, taking pictures and marveling in the knowledge an Adult Book Store bore the Presidents name.
My mind envisioned a group of slightly inebriated grandchildren of Margaret Truman Daniel, but the part of my imagination I wonder might actually be the psychic part quickly came up with a group of 70 somethings from the Missouri suburbs whose granddaddy had been Harry's third cousin once removed, clad in sensible shores and bowling league jackets.
"Where are you going to wear that hat?" I was asked.
Everywhere. Sloppy Joes, The Truman White House, The southernmost point, and the kite shop that mails coconuts to people all over the country. It is okay if you can't remember the zip code, they will look it up for you. The painted coconuts help to support a single mother of two.

Truman you are looking very good these days. and not just physically. You look relaxed and at home in your skin.
Thankyou Jess, I appreciate that very much and yes I do feel at home in my own skin. My conflict is I donlt feel at home in the world my skin resides in.
It will all work out. ;)
-
You're looking good, Truman. Be sure to let me know if you actually star in one of the DVD's. ;)
Thankyou Gary, but there are two things people should never be subjected to:
1. Making sausage
2. Seeing me nekkid.

Awww a beautiful man such as yourself. With the intellect you portray, should be comfortable everywhere..
hopefully that will come with time and understanding...

Dev, I think yu should thank your parents, orthir spirit ever day, for bringing you to Florida. Have you ever been to Key West? Sloppy Joes has the best Margaritas.
I love it here it in Florida Truman, but the funny thing is that as many years I've been here I've never been to Key West. Nope never. From what I understand there's a great gay community there. Did you get to enjoy that?
Furthest south I've been in Florida is Key Largo. But I do have a group of friends who go to Key West every year for camping. Bob and I should go sometime.
Glad you had a great time, and Ill check out a virgin margarita at Sloppy Joes if I ever make it there. Wait let me re-word that to WHEN I make it there.

Exactly. I think this head stone was intended to have a pot of flowers in this spot, but for some reason insted there is a can full of sand, ready for someone to put out a cigarette.

I thought it was an unused pot of flower, hence my confussion.

I am not real sure what to make of this one.

Maybe it symbolizes "I want you to come back to me." That would be a sweet sentiment.
Like the song -- "Tie a Yellow Ribbon".

Definitely made me think of your visit to the site of Jack's murder, Truman, and how movingly you described it.
-
I thought of that too Meryl, seeing that site and the fence and the tracks and the grass, it is so real now.
Today's picture of the day is the actress Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann on Gilligans Island. She is now 69 and just got busted for pot!
-
She looks pretty happy there in Idaho. ;D
She looks pretty good to be 69, too.
I wonder --- does she get residuals for all the Gilligan reruns? If so, she oughtta be stinkin' rich. :o

Wow, that was a very short piece he sung. I am glad he got this opportunity to build his self esteme, and his voice is beautiful. Even Crybaby liked it.

Thanks, Jess. Did you know that piece was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber?
Here it is with Sarah Brightman and a young man Paul Miles Kingston from 1985:

Oh lord! 25lbs and too many beers ago! LOL
-
Have mercy, I am officially never running for public office. And you know Bay City John was probably the only sober one at the table. Rich played a bunch of music on the jukebox. And now Michelle is a grandma! What a difference a few months can make.

Oh lord! 25lbs and too many beers ago! LOL
I remember that night!!! That was the first night we were there!!! That was after the night at Sundance and Rich was feeling very very good. That is my thumb in the picture to the right of Michelle and to the left of Eric. Thank God that was all of me that made it into the picture. Janice was sitting to the left of Michelle. I'm not sure why Bay City John looks so blown away cause I think Truman is right that he was the only one sober. I remember Rich ordered all these little side dishes of things and I thought he was ordering child's meals ;D

What was the name of that place, Mel's Diner?

Wow, such a kind thing for Chad to do.
-
I have always liked Chad Everett. Hey Paul you know what, someone told me they have the sepia picture of me and you set as their screen saver, ain't that nice?
-
What was the name of that place, Mel's Diner?
Actually it was Mel's Drive-In although it was much more like a diner since you certainly could not drive in to it. Apparently according to the pictures and stories on the wall it was actually a drive in once upon a time. The t shirt I got says Mel's Drive-In though.
Also, speaking of San Francisco, the hotel we stayed in - Catherdral Hill - was originally the Jack Tar Hotel which was a small chain of hotels. Most of this was all on the back of the hotel restaurant menu and the restaurant and bar are still called Jack Tar. Anyway, when it was originally built, it was one of the only, if not the only, hotel that had parking underneath. When guests would check in the hotel would park the car and change the oil. Also, the Jack Tar Hotel is mentioned in the book "Tales of the City."

I remember the cab driver telling me that one time on a ride over there from Joe's apartment. He told me it had been Jack Tar's anyway I hadn't heard about the oil change or it being in Tales of the City.
Reminds me of this poem by Billy Collins that goes something like "The first to go is the characters, then the whole plot" about the books we read and gradually forget about until we get to the point we can re read them and it is like a virginal experence.

It was only briefly mentioned, but I felt kind of strange when I read it knowing that I had stayed there. I have never read the book before now. It was one of the things Jim told me about while he was showing me around the City. He knew I loved the city and so I ended up with a whole list of things to check out. It was funny I was working on someone's computer the other day and they had a background on their computer of a city. I knew it looked familiar and I asked what city it was. It was San Francisco and was a picture of that really cool looking green building that is next to the Transamerica Pyramid. After I figured out what the picture was of I recognized everything.
It is hard to find much information about the Jack Tar hotel chain for some reason. I know it was a rather small chain and I don't think it lasted long. They did seem to be spread around a lot. For example there were some in tropical destinations outside the US, there was one in Durham, NC, one in San Francisco, and others spread out through the US. I think they came along at a time when hotels were basically loosing out to the small roadside motels and downtown areas were going downhill. I think because of that the Jack Tar chain never made it as big as it would have during a different time period. It is strange that there seems to be little information on it though.

It kind of amazes me how popular the name Kennedy has become, like it has been so long since a Kennedy was president that couldn't really have anything to do with it. A few years ago it was Reagan, and I could (under)stand it better because the people having kids would have grown up with him.
Is it a family name in her case?
-
I dont think so.. the Kenedy is not from anyone. But the Elizabeth is Michelle's middle
name...
It is a kind of salute to the grandmothers.. All of my grandsons names start with a J.
Joe, Jeremy, Justin, Jerry, Jason etc.
-
This is Ted.
I know nothing about him except apparently he was acquainted with the American Painter Philip Fletcher Bell in the 1920s or 30s. That, and he seem rather happy.

For Mother's Day, a poem by Jessi:
Mama held a small boy sleepin on his feet,
hummed love
he never forgot.
Love he passed on.
He held a boy sleepin on his feet,
hummed love
an eternity wouldn't forget.
Love he
held and passed on.
Mama kept his room like it was
when he was a boy.
He appreciated that,
her gift.
And she passed it on.
An eternity wouldn't forget
the love
he held so strong.
Ain't no saints here,
just mamas.
-
That is such a beautiful poem, Truman. Thank you very much for posting it!

Jessi wrote that last year and I printed it and put it in my wallet and then it disapeared. I just got be back last night, thanks to Judy. :-*

You're welcome, folks! Did you ever think you'd see someone en pointe on a guy's head? :P

I know! It was one thing when she was on point on his shoulders, but I was left wondering if he had a hard head or a soft head.
Never seen that before.

There's a pretty picture of the Space Needle in today's online Seattle Times in an article about Seattle landmarks...

Hey Artiste!
Yes, Chief Seattle was a Native American leader in Washington state - the city of Seattle is named after him. He is often credited as being one of the first to articulate an environmentalist philosophy, though the accuracy of speeches that are credited to him is debatable.

These pictures I posted are a prelude to asking Brokies to come visit! It gets lonely up here sometimes!
-
I remember that statue when I ate there on the way back from Alaska in 1999. Nice park setting too, I loved the vibe of the place. I actually just this second located the album from the trip but alas I took no pictures there, I must have been out of film. Remember film?
-
I have a vague recollection of film ;).
I think I remember about your 1999 Alaska trip. The cruise with older folks?? Do you remember where you ate? There's a dive bar/diner there - the Five Points Cafe - that has been 'cheating tourists and drunks since 1929' :D. Also Taco del Mar, a Thai restaurant, a pizza parlor...
-
Yes I took the gereatric tour of Alaska, that was what one participant called it. I was not the youngest on the trip but the median age was probably 75.
We were told we would have dinner at the Space Needle and where all psychiced about it. Well the dinner was not at the resturant at the top, although we did visit later, after eating at a banquet hall type facility on about the third floor,
-
Oh I dunno, I have some relatives that look like that......

Why did you go on a gereatric tour of Alaska? Just curious. Did you have fun?
-
Because my mother wanted to go on a tour of Alaska and fell and broke a vertibrae and could and I had not bought trip insurance so I went without her and met some nice people and had a good time.

Here is my picture of the day: Leila Backman Shull, she was my Granny's cousin's wife. I met her once in August of 1980, and heard about her thru the years. I learned yesterday she had passed away back in December at the age of 113, the oldest person on record in South Carolina, the 4th oldest in the United States and the 7th oldest in the world.

This picture is not so much about a good image as it is about the Elephant.
My Granny had windows lined with little chachkas and knickknacks and some additional bric-a-brac. When I was about 9 she reached up and got this elephant down, it had only one tusk and had been slightly singed in a fire, and handed it to me. She said it was to help me remember her by. She said it was made out of the hardest wood in the world but she could not remember how she came by it.
When I moved into the same house years later it was one of the first times I unpacked. The window it sat in was gone because the front porch had been enclosed, so it sits on my dresser now, with other treasures.
-
What a nice memory. That looks like ebony.
I'm a bit of an elephant nut myself. ::)

The Duggers have 18 kids now, I think. And while they are raising good citizens and are taking care of their own business -- that picture is still hilarious. Those children ALL look almost exactly alike -- how could you ever get their names right -- and don't they all start with the same letter? I think so. LOL.
There's another family -- the Arndts -- who have 13 boys and 1 girl -- all single births. They have a show on TLC. Hard to believe out of 14, just one little girl.

Well, here's a weird entry for today.
I remember a cartoon I watched as a kid called "Wacky Races". With a ton of strange cars that raced. One of the cars was the "Compact Pussycat" driven by the lone woman entrant, Penelope Pitstop.
The cars were very odd looking (as you can see by Penelope's car) and I often wondered as a kid if anyone could actually make cars that looked like the ones in the cartoon.
I just found this.

Just two thoughts come to my mind. I read once that everyone in your dream is an aspect of yourself. Can you pin down what the people in the dream represent to you? Maybe it's a fear of not being heard or listened to; or a fear of making a change, of being in a strange environment, cut off from the familiar.
The other thing is, if you believe in astral projection, maybe those are vestige memories of being out-of-body. They say everyone projects in their dreams but few have memories of it. The"dead" people are also out-of-body; that's why they can see you.

Everybody’s lookin’ for some way,
I’m lookin’ for some way out.
I’ve been wastin’ my time standin’ alone
If this is what it’s all about.
All I got is a job that I don’t like
And a woman that don’t understand.
So tonight at the bar,
I’ll get in my car
And take off for the promise land.
Drinkin’ and dreamin’
Knowin’ damn well I can’t go.
I’ll never see Texas, L.A., or Old Mexico.
But here at this table, I’m able to leave it behind.
Drink ‘til I’m dreamin’, a thousand miles out of my mind.
This suit and this tie, is just a disguise.
This ain’t really me.
Some people are born, to be tied down,
Some people are born to be free.
When I look down the road she don’t know
How it gets under my skin.
She’s got my body but my heart and soul
Are out there ridin’ away.
Drinkin’ and dreamin’
Knowin’ damn well I can’t go.
I’ll never see Texas, L.A., or Old Mexico.
But here at this table, I’m able to leave it behind.
Drink ‘til I’m dreamin’, a thousand miles out of my mind.

now this is an Ennis song...

One: this looks really tasty. What's wrong with it? (referring to Chuck's and Jess's comment)
Two: how on earth are people supposed to eat it?
You can't use your hands as you usually do with burgers because of the gravy. But eating burgers with cutlery? Seems wrong somehow

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I would definitely try it!
You would eat it with cutlery. Yes, it seems wrong, but that's how you'd do it. I've done it in the past when I've had "Pizza burgers". Burger covered with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. The bun is not covered, but the sauce overflows easily, and it's cleaner to eat it with a fork and knife.

Here is Crybaby with the mouse she caught last night:
Did she offer it to you as a prize? I had a cat who did that. It was so disgusting. She once left the bloody body of a small lizard she hunted somewhere outside right in front of the door so we coud see it when we got home.

Here is Crybaby with the mouse she caught last night:

He loved to carry katydids in his mouth...I think he liked the 'buzzing' feeling...

Code caught a mouse once in the house. I thought it was one of his toys until I realized it had a real mouse tail. He brought it from the corner, carried it in his mouth to the kitchen, and released it. It ran incredibly fast back to wherever he found it. He looked for it, but apparently it must have got back out however it got in. It never appeared again and no other mouse has ever appeared either. I think the mouse must have gone and told all of his mouse friends that this was not a good place to visit. He probably said there was a huge black monster with sharp claws and sharp teeth that would eat them all up if they entered.

Cody sometimes brings in a dead fish from the creek. He drops it at my feet. Then he looks at me like "well... what are you going to do with it?" smiling and all proud of himself.
Dead fish and mice. I guess they are trying to reward me in their own way. Perhaps it's some sort of compliment.

Aww! Poor Code! He was trying to help! ;)
Run! Run for your life... and keep on running! You managed to slip past it this time Jack.. by the skin of your teeth.... wait until Code drops one on your pillow!
I'm just kidding. I really do think they do this in an effort to award us or praise us. It's kind of sweet in it's own way, isn't it?

I think it is meant to be a sign of deep affection. After all you feed them so they are trying to feed you. My previous cats used to bring all kinds of things to the door and then when I got a cat door they brought things inside. It was rather gross!!! That is one reason Code lives inside. I would prefer that he not bring me things like that. I think he and I are better off not eating weird things like that anyway ;)

That is very interesting, that is the sound the cat is making.
I heard a picec on public radio once that in different languages people interpret the sounds an animal makes differently. Like I would say a cat says Meow but in German it might be different.
-
;D
I stopped in Independance, Virginia yesterday at a moblie coffee shop, the woman who owned it had a baby goat about 3 months old with her. She bottlefed the goat after the mother rejected the kid.
-
Cute!!!
I wish I could have goats in my backyard so that I wouldn't have to mow it!! I don't think they'd be allowed in town tho.

cute pics!
-
I heard a picec on public radio once that in different languages people interpret the sounds an animal makes differently. Like I would say a cat says Meow but in German it might be different.
In German it's "Miau", which sounds pretty close to meow since both are mimicking the same cat sound.
But "woof-woof " is very different from the German "wau-wau". Mimicking two different kinds of barking.
It's the same with those little sounds humans make, which aren't really words. For example a *phew* would be a "Puh!" (a sound as in Winnie-the-Pooh).
Those are difficult for me, you don't find them in a dictionary. Well, it's easy to understand the English version when I read it, but it's hard to find an English correspondent for a German sound.

Up in West Virginia they have this amazing Redneck gathering every summer called Jescofest. It is centered around Jesco White, the world's most important and well known redneck. For more information here you go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesco_White
Jesco's long suffering wife, Norma Jean, appeared a couple of years ago and sang Paper Roses. She remainded me somewhat of Susan Boyle, and I was really impressed with her voice. One of Jesco's more famous quotes is when he threated to kill her because his eggs was runny, that was 20 years ago.

That table behind Crybaby? That is an old Veneer end table, one of a set, my paternal grandmother bought at Harlowe's Store right after the war. Then my Mamma got a hold of them and I dunno what it was with that geeration, they had to put that fake wood print contact paper all over everthing. I need to get them refinished. There is also a coffee table what goes with them but Mamma still has that.

Yes. The one behind Crybaby. It has 4 little pedestal things underneath -- very cute. My grandmother had a round one like that with one pedestal branching out into 4 smaller ones with "claws". I gave it to my cousin. She collects old tables--I still get to see it, but I don't have to dust it. ;D

Triple punch buggy ??? Hunh?
It's an American thing.
When people see a Volkswagon bug, they'll turn to the nearest person, punch them on the arm, and say "Punchbuggy blue (or whatever color the bug is) no punchbacks."
Meaning they had the right to punch them because they saw a Volkswagon bug, and the other person is not allowed to punch them back.
lol
I can't explain why we do it.....we just do. ::)

I can't believe this is a news story.
Cheesus Jesus Likeness Found In Cheetos Bag
In Dallas, Texas Dan and Sarah Bell discovered a Jesus shaped Cheeto as they began there road trip last week. Nicknaming the Cheeto Cheesus, Sarah noticed that one of the chips looked oddly familiar I was putting them in my hand and I had eaten most of the ones in my hand, and one was left lying there. And I said, Oh my gosh, look at this. It really looks like a person in a robe praying.
CBS news reported the Cheeto in question is about 2 inches tall and missing a right arm. Other than that, one might see a distinct robe, long hair and a man praying. This isnt the first time a Jesus Cheeto has shown up in the snack bag. Last year CNN reported on a similar Jesus Cheeto found in the bag of the popular snack.

My Mom, aunts, uncles and cousins all sat it too! ;D
Triple punch buggy Hunh?
Those VW buses were cult back then. Great cars .
Hee Hee! I bet that did sound wierd to you! LOL
Chuck explained it pretty well. We played it a little different, we didn't designate a color we would just yell "punch buggy no punch backs" and wail on who ever was closest to us (my little sister hated this game for obvious reasons). A triple punch buggy (the VW Van) allowed the one who saw it first to say "Triple punch buggy no punch backs" and punch the other person 3 times! LOL
I know, sounds awful but really helped to pass the time on long road trips. Boy Chrissi, growing up in Germany if y'all had this game you'd have been socking each other all the time!

That was my favorite scene from the episode last night.
-
The other week when experiencing some sort of attraction to the Gomer Pyle character, I watched a slew of youtube videos and came across the intro to the show:

Reading the comments I came across this one from a poster id'd as Sierria64:
"The guy standing next to gomer , the black guy is my dad. sgt lamar william he died in 1971 in vietmnam." (her speling)
I remember that black guy from when I was a kid, I was conscious of his being there, integration was still a new thing at the time. It is strange in this day and time some one steps out and identifies him.

Isn't that odd and still mysterious? One more great talent tragically cut short. :-\

Strangely, I recognize the sky.
This Oct. 6, 1906 stereo photograph provided by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History shows view of earthquake-damaged San Francisco. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the six images were snapped by color photography pioneer Frederick Eugene Ives several months after the April 1906 'Great Quake.' National Museum of American History volunteer Anthony Brooks found the glass plate photos while cataloguing a collection donated by Ives' son, Herbert.

Your plan is to collect empty coffee cans, fix them up nicely with pretty colours and sell them as flowerpots?
I'm sure you can achieve financial independency that way, in due time.

Naw, I just put a dollar in every week for 24 weeks and then I consider it full and start on another one. That is a little over 2 cans a year, 2x$24=$48!
Well it would be a lot of money for Ennis......

Sure would.
Good luck on your task! :D

Since we have given up coffee. (It is giving us a hard time sleeping...) We use an empty 3 pound salted peanut jar. It does the same thing. Not real sure that Ennis had one of those however. Every year we have at least a couple of hundred bucks in that dang thing. It sure helps at the holidays. Its just pocket chqnge. like finding money..
-
That is a very good idea. I save my pennies in a Gallo whine bottle with a corn cob stopper, and the nickles in an antique mason jar and the dimes in a modern whine bottle and quarters in the console of the car because I usually have to rob it for gas money and the half dollars in an aluminum pepper shaker I found in the woods up in the cabinet, and I will rob the nickles occasionally if I need something.

Here is her majesty posing:

Is that Crybaby?
She's beautiful!

I have an old plastic margarine dish full of pennies that I will take into work tomorrow. Every holiday season the Facilities Services department where I work has a penny drive for charity. I will take my year's worth of pennies in tomorrow and donate them.

A photo that really says a thousand words, this couple in Washington State getting their marriage license just after midnight, photo by Meryl Schenker:

Maybe a stupid question, but -- why are they all raising their hands?

:D :D :D
Great photos.
The pic of the two guys went also around on FB yesterday and someone dubbed it: Ennis and Jack finally made it!
I like that thought a lot. :)
Maybe a stupid question, but -- why are they all raising their hands?
Either it's not a stupid question, or we're stupid together. ;D I was wondering the same thing.
Looks more like taking an oath in court than like saying their vows. Guess it's the customary, maybe even required procedere in the US?
-
Maybe a stupid question, but -- why are they all raising their hands?
I think they are probably swearing that the information they gave on their application is true. I've never got one before but I know when I take the paperwork to the court to get people evicted I have to swear.

Finally! Their names are Larry Duncan and Randell Shepherd and here is their story:

This is what marriage equality looks like.
Reddit user Deesnuttzz posted this amazing picture of a bearded couple applying for a marriage license in Seattle, Washington, on the first day that the marriage equality law was put in action.
larry duncan randell shepherd bearded couple
According US News, Larry Duncan, 56, a retired psychiatric nurse, and Randell Shepherd, 48, a computer programmer, of North Bend, Wash., have been together 11 years. They wore the matching outfits as a "fashion statement."
"We were at a party and we met eyes and fell in love," Duncan said to the news source.
"He came up and asked me out, and I said yes," Shepherd added.
The bearded couple is considering getting married Sunday at a local church that will perform mass ceremonies for same-sex couples.
Although they're not religious, Duncan told NBC, “Enough people have told me, ‘God hates fags'. I want someone in a church to say, ‘God loves fags,’ to have that stamp on it.”
-
And they used that license:
-
They was tough old birds...
Great to this is happening!!

I think they are probably swearing that the information they gave on their application is true. I've never got one before but I know when I take the paperwork to the court to get people evicted I have to swear.
Ah, I see.
Thanks for the explanation, Tru.

Do you say, "Jack I swear..." or are you not the swearing type?
-
I should, but hadn't thought of it. At this Shushi place I like they have a roll called Captain Jack's Lover, and I always get it just so I can say "I'll have Captain Jack's Lover".
