Title: State Fair of Texas - the new fried favorites
Post by: delalluvia on September 01, 2008, 11:22:27 pm
I can feel my arteries hardening and my heart ready to seize up:

Nothing says State Fair like fried cooking, and
nothing says Texas like chicken fried steak. Glen
Kusak’s chicken fried bacon combined both, winning him
the best taste award Monday at the fourth annual Big
Tex Choice Awards.

“Everything in Texas is chicken fried and bacon makes
everything better so we thought we’d put the two
together,” said Mr. Kusak, owner of Yoakum Packing,
who drives about 250 miles every year from south Texas
to sell his smoked meat at the fair.

A fried banana split, a mash of gooey banana and honey
peanut butter balls surrounded by chunky fried dough
and then smeared in caramel, chocolate and powdered
sugar — and ice cream factors in there somewhere — won
the most creative prize.

Gag, no.  I had an ex-BF try the fried Twinkie.  It was basically crunchy oil-soaked bread - all the filling had melted away.  A co-worker tried the fried Coke and she said it was nasty.  :-X

I'm a traditionalist, I stick with fried cheesecake. That is YUM!!!

if you say so...after a friend had a run in with a toxic corndog a few years ago, I have stayed far away from anything on a stick (you know it was bad when even your FRIENDS swear off the thing that made you sick) I thought she was gonna die.... :P :P :P

I stick with the funnel cakes....DOUBLE YUM!!

I've had fried cheesecake.  it's very tasty.

I like funnel cakes too.

Ever have Zeppoles?  Any time I go to a carnival, I get them!  Globs of fried dough, covered in powdered sugar.

Isn't that just a powdered sugar doughnut hole?

kinda yes, kinda no.

It's not as ......"cakey" as a doughnut hole.  They're chewier, and served hot.  They're bigger too, can be the size of 2 or 3 doughnut holes.
