Title: "Jack I Swear"
Post by: ifyoucantfixit on June 12, 2007, 02:01:31 pm
Jack, I swear     what is the rest of the line?

i think this topic was up a long time ago, but since my answer keeps fluctuating from one thing to another.
I wonder if some of you have a different idea now than at the beginning of your BBM experience.

I am always changing my mind, as I am sure you are supposed to do with all of the storys open
ended lines.  It could leave you with so many choices...I will always love you.  I didnt have the courage to
love you.  You will always be my only love.  I miss you.  Why did you go and get yourself killed?    The lines are simply endless.  What is yours?

My view on this has been pretty much constant since last year.

Jack, I swear....if I had the chance, I'd do it different this time.

Which of course includes I love you. Always have and always will. I miss you. I can hardly stand living without you. If only I had another chance, I'd grab you and never let you go. If only...

...you are some piece of work.

(And that's Ennis' only way of expressing affection and grief.)

I think it was left at "Jack I swear" to show the limitless possibilities.
There is so much that could follw that line that I don't think Ennis even know how to finish it.
I don't know about in the west, but here in the south we say that a lot.
"Did you hear Myrtle Jean down ta the church fell yesterdy?" No! Well I swear.
Or if someone pisses you off ( Iuse it on my daughter a lot) Girl, I swear!
It's an all around phrase that kinda says nothing but gets the point across.
Anyway, I think theres just too much going on in Ennis' head and heart that thats all he could get out.
But, thats just me.
