I have always had a very pronounced sweet tooth which has really put the pounds on me in my middle years--pastries and pies, cake and cookies, anything with chocolate.
Celery and/or carrots
I love eating popcorn when I feel nervous or stressed out.
Wow, David, I've never heard anybody say they consider celery a comfort food! I'm impressed. For me carrots and celery are Diet Torture Foods.
Chocolate gravy over homemade biscuit drenched in butter. I don't have that anymore. My granny made it for me about once a week. No one else can make it like she did.
Ooooooo good call on the biscuits!!! I love biscuits. I should have included them on my list to go along with the fried chicken. ;D
Why are all the best, yummiest foods bad for you? I don't get it! Lol ::)
mmm.. Janice - I love asparagus with lot and lots of butter to dip it in!
and - Americans - biscuits to me are cookies - so what are biscuits to you?
Good morning Kelda!! You're up bright and early! :D
Now, someone on the other side of the country may disagree with me, but here in Indiana, biscuits are rolls, like bread rolls you put butter on. We have them during supper quite often. Also, (at least in Indiana) we will serve them at breakfast and pour hot gravy over them (biscuits and gravy). Yummy! :D
its 8.53am here!
Bread and gravy? CRAZY! (But no more than you lot think deep fried pizza is so I guess we're even!!)
...
anything made out of sweet potatoes
Other than that, I like most of the foods people have mentioned. Chrissi, I've never heard of "malt candies." Do they have them here? Would I like them about as much as you like marshmallows? ;)
Oh my. Reading this thread makes me greedy for every second thing that's mentioned ::).
David, your biscuits look similar to scones in GB. Oh, I love the British tea time: tea with milk, scones and clotted cream. In Germany nobody drinks tea with milk, that's why I didn't like tea before I learned how to do it right in England ;D.

What exactly is deep fried pizza? Is it an actual pizza fried
an Italian would find this extremely insulting!
What exactly is deep fried pizza? Is it an actual pizza fried (an Italian would find this extremely insulting!) or somekind of turnover stuffed with cheese and tomato sauce?

I have done the deep fried turkey thing, though.

Leslie
:o :o
How can they say it's not greasy?? Really?
It sure take a lot of preparation. I think I'll just stick to frying 'fries', twice of course! :)
Ha ha, this was a little bit of a joke for Chrissi.
When I was leaving Germany back in March, her husband was making me some sandwiches for my trip. I had picked out salami and cheese at the store. Jens was making me a salami sandwich, and a cheese sandwich. I said, "Oh no, put them together." They both looked horrified. And then when I asked if they had any mustard--I thought they would both faint dead away. Jens couldn't even hold the knife to spread the mustard. I had to do it. LOL
L
That story will stay with us for a long, long time :laugh:Ya can't have a good salami sammitch without yellow mustard! LOL ;D
While I was in Colorado, Jens registered here on BM in order to be able to see the pics in the Social Events Forum. As moniker, he chose "sandwichmaker" ;D
Oh, and guess who likes salami and cheese combined on one sandwich: Kerstin! But if I were to put mustard on it, I guess she'd faint right away ;D
Coffee Heath Bar Crunch ice cream
Outback ribeye steak
tofu
Brown rice
tamari

What's the difference between frying and deep frying?
What's the difference between frying and deep frying?
Frying you do in a shallow pan, turnhing the food to cook it on all sides...deep frying (which in my opinion is Gods finest idea), completely submerges the food item in very hot and very yummy fat.
Elle, I love that your list includes this:
along with this:
Leslie - If you're jonesing for biscuits and gravy, get thee to a Cracker Barrel! I know they've made it as far north as Massachusetts.
My favorite comfort food - shepherd's pie.
Katherine - Love your food groups!
You and Rick...he loves it...I can't abide it.

Shepherd's Pie or Cracker Barrel biscuits & gravy ??
Yes, I know. No Cracker Barrels in Maine, though, and to be honest, I am not sure they are worth a trip to Massachusetts! LOL
No Red Lobsters in Maine, either. Maine is the only state in the US without a Red Lobster. I wonder why....
L
Shepherd's Pie
   That powerful Lobsterman's Lobby, I s'pect ;)

Circus Peanuts, 100% sugar and artificial colors. I get a bag of those, sit in the car and eat every one of them.
I LOVE french fries with mayo!
It's my favorite! Everyone always looks at me like I am crazy when I eat it.
At McDonalds or Chick Fil A they always ask if I need Ketchup. I say no, mayonaise please.
The looks I get! LOL

Speaking of which - can anyone think of really nice which is healthy? that I can eat when i want to be naughty? but not really? There is onl so many pieces fo fruit you can eat!
Here is a "dangerous" recipe for chocoholics that only takes 5 minutes! I tried it and it's not too bad (although, I'm not fussy, and will literally eat just about anything), especially wth a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream:
5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) who wouldn't choose the option:)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT ! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).
And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?
Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Yes, Kelda, sort of sad but true - I will eat just about anything! I'm not picky when it comes to food! I never leave anything on my plate, and rarely do I ever throw away food!
I think we may be twins! :D
Yeah! Maybe in our previous lives. I always seem to have a sort of sister-hood feeling when I talk to you, or you talk to me! I guess one never knows!
