Title: Is it the same jacket?
Post by: mvansand76 on October 14, 2007, 04:38:26 pm
Is the jacket that Ennis wears in the reunion by the river scene the same as he wears during their last trip together years and years later?

Oh and on another, slight more shallow note, could Jack's hair be any hotter than it is in the reunion scene? I gasp at the sight every time!  :P :-X :o

As I recall, that's a gray jacket with a lambskin collar, isn't that right?

The jacket, by the way, is a Carhartt. Here is a similar Carhartt jacket. It doesn't have the pocket flaps, and there are other differences, but it was closer than the others.

Here is Ennis at the last meeting by the lake.

The jacket at the first reunion is similar, but it is corduroy. I don't think this one is corduroy, but it may be. The collars look the same. That would be an old jacket, but I have some pretty old sweatshirts!!  :P

No, that's Jack's coat!  :D I mean Ennis's, the brown corduroy one...

Shasta, isn't the final argument scene jacket also corduroy?

It may be, Melissa. I'll look more closely at the screencaps when I get home from work. Right now--I'm runnin' late.  :P I have no motivation to go to work this Monday morning!!  :-\

Yes it is. And it's the same jacket in both scenes:

Reunion:

Lake side argument:

In the lake side argument you can see how old and worn the jacket is (respectively has been made by some costume person).

Have you noticed the awkward postition of Ennis' left arm in the second pic? It's a mirror of Jack's arm position when he tries to still the blood running from Ennis' nose at their last day on the mountain (directly before the dirty punch).

Thanks so much Chrissi!

Yes, I did notice that! That's interesting isn't it?

That's another scene I watched repeatedly last night. The way Jack drawls Ennis, Ennis, Ennis, and the concerned look on his face just blows me away. I think it's so interesting that the moment Jack puts his hand on Ennis's cheek the way he did in TS2, Ennis knocks him down...

Well, he kept it for 15 years -- I've had clothes that long too. I'm more like Ennis than Jack in the $$ department -- especially since I got divorced. He was making child support payments, and that jacket was good enough. Bless his heart, too.

Melissa, your new avatar is very cute!

I really remember this about some of the Ennis-shirts that people brought to the BBQ in May... a lot of them were very clearly deliberately distressed.  It also seems like Ennis's aqua truck (the one EDelMar has) has been deliberately distressed... some of the brown "rust stains" are paint.  I remember thinking that was really cool.

:)

In that lake scene if you look it was made from at least two takes, Ennis's arm changes position as he drops down.

Aaaw thank you Shasta!  :-*

Yes, I agree, when a piece of clothing is made well, it can last for years and years. Things that you buy nowadays sometimes only last one season!

Hey Mark! So good to see you here again. I've missed ya, bud :).

I never noticed the different takes. Something to look for the next time I watch it. Nah, I think I'd better check the scene alone. When I watch the whole movie, I'm still a total basket case at this point  :'(

I bought a Lee jeans jacket this year and I think that will last at least 20 years if I don't lose it somewhere. I have a leather jacket that I have had for 10 years, so this thing with Ennis wearing the same jacket is not that weird now that I come to think about it... :D
