Praz-de-Lys, France - 27 JAN 2008
I've just come back from a 6 day holiday trip to France and it was very very difficult to enjoy it, especially since the friend and the rest of the group I was travelling with weren't bothered by Heath's passing in any way...
But I was surrounded by mountains, beautiful views and sunshine, which made me miss BM a little less. Fabienne and I were texting back and fourth and we were on the phone too. Fabienne, I was so happy to have someone to share this with, while I was so far away from BM - having no access to the internet and no papers (or out-dated ones).. James (jura86), a biiig hug for you too! It's wonderful to have been in contact with you and to have shared with you our grief, while I was up there in the mountains.. [thank you for your mail, I will answer soon]
Anyway, the reason for this thread - and forgive me for taking up space for my own, but I didn't know where to include this - but while I was in France, the beautiful sunshine and mountains surrounding me, made me want to make a symbolic gesture as a tribute to Heath.
I went snowboarding in a little place, about 40km away from the Mont Blanc (which you can see on the pictures) and on Sunday morning I had some time to myself and went up the slopes alone. The weather was just gorgeous and I found the perfect place to remember Heath up the mountains at about 1500m altitude. It was a place off the slopes, windy and quite steep, but I was determined to accomplish what I had planned that day! I had bought some postcards the day before and had written a few words on the back. It’s not high-flying prose and some of it is borrowed, but it expresses the words that were in my mind and soul.

HEATH
1979-2008
The mountain forever, eternal, but it is empty now. I wonder where you are.
Screams are echoing in my mind. I hear your voice, but turn around in vain. There is no sound.
You left them and you will never grow old. You died alone…
I have never met you, but you broke into my heart. It haunts me.
Escape. Dance. Sleep in peace. You are beautiful.
No one sees you now, but the silver moon.

I then wrapped it in a see-through plastic bag and stuck it tight in a nearby tree. I think it might actually survive up there for a while. I'd like to think that in the summer, when all the snow is gone, it will be too high for anyone to take it off.

Then I did some more weird stuff, when I found and bought little plastic horses..

I’m gone for another two days now, but will be back on BM at the end of the week.

I've been looking forward to seeing your tribute to Heath in the mountains. What can I say, it's beautiful. I hope you felt that you were not alone on that mountain.
I love the horses you put there. Thank you.

OMG, {{{{{{JUDE}}}}} this is so beautiful. :-* :-* :-*
I'm so glad to hear you had Fabienne to talk to. It's hard isn't it, when you're out there with only limited access to Internet.
Were you near Chamonix Mt. Blanc? It's an absolutely gorgeous area isn't it?
*hug*

Oh Jude, you made a beautiful tribute. It must have been so hard last week to be without internet, poor friend. (((Jude))) I'm happy you and Fabienne were on the phone together.
I know! I'm extremely late with thanking you all for your replies to my post. I'm incorrigible.. :-\
THANK YOU {{{{everyone}}}}!
It's nice to know that one can share this with you - 'cause you understand.. :-*
I would like to make it up to you by posting two mini-movies I did while on holiday (again) last week. I swear, I'm usually not on holiday so often.
It just happened that both my holidays this year followed each other a few weeks apart only.
Anyway, I travelled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the North of Oman - and fell in love with Oman and its beautiful country and kind people. The UAE impressed me with its cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but these are places I don't need to go back to. Oman on the other hand, is a country that needs to be discovered in its entirety. B e a u t i f u l.
In any case, Heath was on my mind and here is proof.. 8)

LESLIE, that tattoo is perfect! It's gorgeous. I am more and more thinking about having mine done. There are a couple of tattoo shops in Brussels. I will wait for the summer though (July/August) as it will mark the 10th year of my first tattoo. If I get one tattoo every 10 years, I think I'll never have to fear to be completely covered.. ;D
Anyway, good job on having yours done!
Thank you everyone for your comments on my mini-films. I actually forgot two pictures I took at a different part of Sohar Beach in the United Arab Emirates. It was pretty deserted - we were supposed to go to a fish souk, but it had already closed - and suddenly appear these two men on horses (we had seen no horses until then, only dromedary (spelling?)) and needless to say, who they reminded me of!

I was introduced to Nick Drake many, many years ago by my brother in law. 'Nothern Sky' is one of my favorites. It's a brilliant song.

I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you're here
Brighten my northern sky.
I've been a long time that I'm waiting
Been a long that I'm blown
I've been a long time that I've wandered
Through the people I have known
Oh, if you would and you could
Straighten my new mind's eye.
Would you love me for my money
Would you love me for my head
Would you love me through the winter
Would you love me 'til I'm dead
Oh, if you would and you could
Come blow your horn on high.
I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you're here
Brighten my northern sky.
