In the early 60's I was still in elementary school, and I remember we exchanged valentine cards at school

I may be wrong but I think it came later in Europe, at least in continental Europe.

So it must have been hard on the boys then, especially Jack who was more aware of the nature of his feelings than Ennis... :(
