Two Guides, c. 1875
Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute
Williamstown, Massachusetts
"Two well-known Adirondack guides, the strapping Monroe Holt (1845-1921) in his trademark red shirt and the seasoned veteran mountaineer Orson "Old Man" Phelps (1816-1905), stand ready to venture forth into the wilderness, axes in hand. Homer spent the fall of 1874 in upstate New York, not far from this Beaver Mountain setting, and apparently completed the painting that winter."

That's art? Looks to me like a display at Sears for a sale on flannel shirts. :-\

It is not exactly great art but it is nice to know that the artist has been inspired by BbM.
I love the mural at Riverton Post Office.

A show about protecting art in Britain during the World War is on tonight, it's called Framed.

I watched Framed last night but fell asleep half-way through. It was not the fault of the show, which was very well done, but because I was sitting under my son's new throw, which is burgundy velour on one side and faux fur on the other. I swear it must be infused with some kind of narcotic drug! I woke up about 11 pm and a show was just finishing up with a young lady (she looked to be around 12) playing a wonderful violin solo at the Met or Carnegie Hall or some such place. The show was called From the Top, and I wish I had seen the whole thing!
