I have been a member of the board for a few weeks, and have been contributing threads to all the forums, so I hope I havent been out of line, joining in here.

I actually came to this forum first, because it had so many posts, it is a great forum, and I like all the others too, now I have had a chance to read thru them.

Please let me know if there is some membership criteria for joining Chez Tremblay.

Seriously, this place is called Chez Tremblay, because it was originally started by about 50 of us moving en masse from our former cozy home on the Pierre Tremblay board located on the rat-infested sinking ship that was IMDb at the time. Anyone who feels they are a part of the group IS a part of the group. Welcome!

But, I've been thinking that it's really important that we remind some of our old-timers and to show some of our wonderful newbies about some of the ancient history of BetterMost. So, I've simply been going to pages, 18,19, etc. and bumping really old, original threads. I want people to remember the feeling that people had when they first joined BetterMost. We were all SO grateful for a haven from trolls! We wanted a safe place where our community could exist in peace. And, we wanted to conduct our extremely intelligent discussion of this wonderful, life-changing film - called Brokeback Mountain- in an environment untainted by trolls.

To my great delight, I met Katherine (latjoreme) today in my hometown of Pittsburgh! It was a wonderful Brokie moment. She was the one who invited me over from imdb. Maybe newbies don't even know about the perils of "inviting" that existed in the early days. I'm doing all this because I want all of us to appreciate what we have here. We have a very special bond as Brokies. Despite arguments and people who decide they need to move on from here... we need to remember how special this community is and how special it is for Phillip to provide this website for us.

I did a similar thing, I was on the Yahoo message board, from March, and it has been my "best friend" since seeing the movie, and wondering "what the hell is happening to me"......but that board too, got in the hands of the trolls and as much I tried to ignore them, it eventually got the better of me, and so I heard about Bettermost and joined here...

I have been tring for the last couple of weeks, to get some of my friends to get over here with me...some have registered, but not many have contributed, which is sad, because their are some with a great sense of humour, and some good information to share....a few have said they will feel like "a small fish in a big pond" coming over here, but I have assure them, they will be made welcome, and just to join in.

I applaud the original 50 who defected together, and how obviously you have found a safe haven here.

Will someone please ask me if i want a cup of coffee, and a piece of cherry cake.....so I can become a fully fledged member of Chez Tremblay.

Well, way back when I had first joined BetterMost, newyearsday told me in a PM that the secret handshake involved gently caressing the other person's forearm, gazing meaningfully into their eyes and removing their hat from their hand (if they happen to be holding a hat... a cowboy hat or otherwise).

I feel I must clarify my 'status' around here. I was actually never on the old PT board on imdb, I was a dedicated poster over on the big BBM board on imdb (my name there was amandazehnder) and I knew most of the PT (now CT) people from the big board since they tended to be around on the main board all the time too. By the time I even figured out what Pierre Tremblay was on imdb, it was already infested with trolls and a sinking situation, much to my dismay.

But, I came over to BetterMost quite/ relatively early (with an invitation from latjoreme). I gather that BetterMost is in no way "invitation only" anymore. I have not bumped a lot of the threads that still lurk on pages 17, 18, 19, etc. that have a lot to do with the politics of "inviting." People really, really worried about that. I thought the titles of some of those threads might be taken the wrong way by newer members of the board these days. I did bump the ones about Jenny and Delalluvia... just because I thought it would be a kick to see those on the first page. But, I remember, vividly, when BetterMost was top secret. Never to be mentioned out in the open on imdb, etc. I know for a fact that this has now changed.

Oh, see, we need a BetterMost historian. All of this stuff is very interesting. I'm really not enough of an old-timer to qualify as the historian. But, I do think it's a cool idea.

The inviting stuff comes from the old days, Katie...a vestige of the Troll Wars at IMDb. We wanted to let friends know about this place but not trolls. With the registration and stuff that Phillip has put in place, we've moved beyond all that, which is nice.

There is a thread here with the history, which has a bit more detail. You might find it interesting.

Some of us (me included) were very paranoid back then - and with cause. I had set up a Yahoo email address and invited people who wanted to stay in touch to send me their email address, so that we could find each other if the two IMDb boards totally sank (which looked like a real possibility at the time). Most of the 40 or so people who emailed me were good old BBM-lovers, but there were actually 5 or 6 trolls who wrote too, trying to find out our new location, some posing as genuine CT folk. That'd make a person paranoid.

Once we realized that the administration here at BetterMost really pays attention and cares about keeping the place troll-free, we opened up about it on IMDb. We now occasionally DO post open invitations there to come check BetterMost out.

I know!!! It really is fascinating to re-read some of the posts in this thread. About the trolls following Elle around, etc. And, I have to laugh to read how I expressed myself and composed posts three years ago.
