I remembered read a thread about this over IMDb a while ago. If it’s the same one, then basically there is nothing that we have not seen. Vaguely remember that the additional DVD or CD contains the short story and may be some promotional materials (?).
Can it really be true?
Yeehaw! ;D
So I've already got two copies of the film on DVD. What's one more copy of Brokeback Mountain? ;D
"Never-before-seen footage" can mean anything: the 2nd assistant boom operator scratching his armpit, et cetera.
There's been some good ideas here -
Something I'd like added to the DVD is an analysis by CaseyCornelius of the artistic values many miss out
Also love the idea of a countdown to the release - Gotta talk to Phillip about that one!
I added this most momentous day to the calendar :)
Would it be overkill to add 91 Days Until.. 90 Days Until ... and so forth??
There could be a banner scrolling on the front page or something, days, hours, minutes.
Universal Videos are carried in regular stores so DON"T WORRY!! LOL!!
I am very excited too!
a couple of the suggestions were "Second Coming", "Release Day" or ?
so it'll be March for us Euro's then..NOOOOOOOOOOO...... *breaks down and sobs all over the computer*
Those names made me think of "Gun goin off Day." :)
so it'll be March for us Euro's then..
*cries*
but YAY nonetheless!
I actually sat shock still for a moment when I read the title to this post!
Will we have to wait till March for a R2 version then? Boooooo! :(
Us Euro Brokies will just have to avoid all the posts from our American cousins discussing the extras so that the surprise isn't spoiled.
Am excited though. Always good to have something to look forward to after Christmas. ;D ;D ;D
Now, we have three months to speculate about what might be one that 2nd disc.
Karen
so it'll be March for us Euro's then..
Just a guess as we were a good 2 months later the first time round and its not showing on amazon or play in the UK.
and a loud cry :'( for us Europeans, since it may take God knows how long until we'll be able to get our greedy hands on it.
Should today be added to the Cult? Announcement Day perhaps? With Eric as the bearer of most joyful tidings?
NOOOOOOOOOOO...... *breaks down and sobs all over the computer*
Why are we Europeans treated as second-rate world citizens when it comes to this???????
Het spijt me. :(
I still think these DVDs should be released at the same time in all parts of the world so people don't have to wait. It isn't fair.
Things are starting to look bright again..... :-))))
All Europeans and Australians are warmly invited to Seattle to view the 2 disc set in its entirety on January 24th, 2006. We have one guest bed, two couches, floor space for sleeping bags, and a back yard for puptents.
oh, Elle, that's so nice! :) If only...
Can I hear an 'AMEN!' er, 'YEEHAW!'The Cult shall recognize January 23, 2007, as
THE SECOND COMING
and its Prophet, sfericsf, shall be known as
Eric the Open-Eyed
A Solemn
YEEHAW
Hey Euros and Australians: same here. Our sunny Colorado casa has a full guest bath, nice yard and a big-screen TV & nice speakers for Mountain viewing. And we can drive you around the lovely, similar terrain we have here or in nearby Wyoming.
(And maybe later you can host us or at least give us pointers when we visit your cool country . . .)
Hey Ellemeno: loved your 'armpit' crack. I needed that belly laugh!

nope. not gonna do it. i'm a purist when it comes to this. what ever the director puts out at the release is the original film. everything else is just a ploy to make more money.
just kidding. I'll at least Netflix it, if I don't buy it.
Available 23 January 2007:oh my goodness, that was wonderful information..thank you so much for giving us the way to get this long awaited piece of brokeback memorabilia..great news....... janice

I'm all for the commentary if it's a good one.
What else do you think?
I've heard Ang has never done a DVD commentary, but there are so many people I would be very happy to hear too. Shoot - even some of our knowledgeable fellow Brokies. :)
Or Pierre. That would be cool.
Thank God, he changed his mind about that.
There's a commentary made by Ang Lee and James Shamus on the Sense and Sensibility DVD.
The commentary on the dvd is nice, he does talk about how they did certain scenes and why.
What is the Sense & Sensibility DVD? ???
There's a commentary made by Ang Lee and James Shamus on the Sense and Sensibility DVD. They are always going on about 'the sheep'. Apparently they had a lot of trouble shooting the 'sheep' scenes' in that movie (luckily there weren't many), which made Ang Lee decide never to do a film with sheep again!

Well maybe he likes to have a messy Christmas? ;D
Funny word!
I take it this what the cover will look like. Looks like its gonna be a great release!(http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p86/horo35/brokebackad.jpg)Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Focus Features will release Brokeback Mountain: Collector's Edition on January 23rd, 2007. The acclaimed film - starring Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Williams, and Anne Hathaway - arrives in a new two-disc set featuring an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround tracks. The set promises all-new bonus materials, along with a set of limited edition postcards. Retail will be $26.98.
It is usually a mess by the time it is over.
It is usually a mess by the time it is over.
Here's hoping this info is wrong!
I love the word Xmess, because for me it's usually a 'mess' before, during AND after. I'm a little disorganized.
I wasn't going to get the collector's edition, but if the art looks anything like the French release (and the theatrical release of the movie is on the first disk), I'll get the new version and donate my old one to a library or something.
Ack, so many beautiful versions of collector's editions and so little money!!!! I like the French one also...
I already have...the British wide screen (won't play on my DVD player, but it does have Best Film across the top of it, an honor our Academy somehow forgot to bestow).
I gotta write a letter to the producer of the film at Focus saying BBM is worth more then what your coming out with. Maybe others should write in as well. Don't know what good it will do. Gotta find the mailing address for Foucs. If I do, I will post it.
If they plan on waiting longer for a director's cut, it won't be as financially lucrative as interest will start to wane.
That's true, already my interest is falling. Basically I'm looking forward to a possible Alberta get-together next year than thats pretty much it for me. Then I'm done with the BBM thing. Even with this crummy copy that is coming out in Jan I'm wondering if I should really buy it? I'm beginning to just not care anymore.

Indeed, I agree with Melissa.
I too find this "Collector's Edition" to be less than satisfying - downright offensive & I don't intend to buy it. Give me something other than picture cards -
WE NEED THE DELETED and alternate SCENES!!!!!!!
Alternate Endings? OMG I wish! :D :D
Can you imagine?

I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude as well.
I've already got the wide-screen version and the full-screen version. I don't think I need a third copy.
Since Tower Records closed >:( , I don't even know where I would buy it now...

No. Everything that they put on it I've seen already. But I read an intriguing thread yesterday about secret codes that unlock features on DVD's that no one knows about
Eric, you're near SF...they'll be selling it on every corner...right next to the hustler with the leather chaps
There's going to be easter eggs on the Brokeback collectors edition?
Is that a question, or are you teasing me!
A virtual Easter egg is a hidden message or feature in an object such as a movie, book, CD, DVD, computer program, or video game. The term draws a parallel with the custom of the Easter egg hunt observed in many western nations.

I know I'll be disappointed by it but I have to have it. I'll still all about all things Brokeback. I still have to restain myself from buying the DVD when I see it at a good price-and I have 3 copies already ::)
O0

"Shepherds"? Maybe technically accurate, but--whatever happened to "the Gay Cowboy Movie"?

Hopefully there will be some advertising for it on television. I would love to see the dozy embrace get national exposure again.
Regarding deleted scenes - didn't Pierre Tremblay say that Ang only filmed two scenes that weren't used in the film? There may have been different views of the same scene but I believe there are not many alternate scenes.
(Tent scene 2 immediately comes to mind.) Wouldn't it be great to have that extra footage!
Wouldn't it be great to have that extra footage!
And after, when Jack gives him a brand new rifle after Ennis brings him the beans, the moment only being shattered by Ennis' refusal to accept such an expensive gift. Another disappointing moment for Jack.

This pic has to be from yet another scene -- possibly when Cassie had "left word with Steve at the ranch" and someone was passing that word along to Ennis.
I've seen this pic elsewhere. With that box of whatever with bottles and all visible at the edge of the pic, it always makes me think of this:
Cassie: What do you do, Ennis del Mar?
Ennis: Well, earlier today I was castratin' calves.
(My second favorite Ennis line)

so... anyone buy it yet?
I had low expectations and wasn't disappointed. :)

I'm very disappointed in the bonus material on the discs. I still feel like this film deserves better.I agree, i can't believe the shoddy treatment this movie has gotten for its DVD releases. C-grade direct-to-DVD actioners get better treatment with one or more commentaries. I think Randy Quaid's lawsuit was a clue that all was not right with this project. I'd love to know the story behind it all.
While I think the author is sometimes off the mark--sometimes way off, as in, "Annie Proulx should be forced to write a sequel," which I think, at this point, would be most unwise of her
...I have postcards.
I read on another board tha!t some of the scenes in the new edition are slighty differnent and longer. Could that possibly be true?
I also finally just bought a dvd player so I could watch it on dvd, but the light on the picture fades in and out.
It happens on all dvd's I tried. The saleman had no idea why. Could it be that my tv is too oldd?
Could somes scenes really be slightly different? Wouldn't that be wonderful if true!!

Try connecting the DVD player directly to your TV instead of going through a VCR, or other intermediary. The fading in and out is the copy protection crap they have on DVDs so you can't copy it on your recorder. Hope this helps ;)
So now I guess i need to buy a new tv to watch my BBM dvd. :laugh:Actually you don't have to buy a new TV. You can buy an adapter box thingy designed to connect dvd players to older TVs, they sell for about $50.
I disagree strongly with "the deleted scenes should have put back into the movie and made it longer." That sounds like blasphemy to me. My understanding is that Ang's movie is the way Ang wants it. BUT I sure would have liked to have seen every one of those deleted scenes as stand-alones. I sure would love to see the Gustavo featurette. But as Meryl said, my big, deep yearning is for commentaries.
From the commentary:
Missing scene: At the campfire when Jack and Ennis get away to the mountain for the first time in four years, there’s a shot of them (see above) sitting next to each other laughing, which isn’t included in the film. At the opening of the "If you can't fix it Jack, you gotta stand it" scene, Ennis is still joking about Jack forgetting his harmonica. When Ennis joins him on the log he doesn't smile. I believe this missing piece is a prelude to the gut wrenching dialogue that followed and deserves to be edited back in.
I think he's wrong here. The shot he's talking about is not from the reunion camping trip, but from the scene on Brokeback when Ennis comes back to camp late because he encountered the bear. Can't find the pic now, but it's in the STS book and I've seen it posted here on BM too.
Is this worth $20 to you?
In the photo I'm thinking of, Jake/Jack and Ennis/Heath are laughing and smiling in such a way that just doesn't seem to me to fit with the rest of that scene--like maybe they started joking around after the scene was filmed, or something, and the publicity folks took a picture.
So uhm does this Collector's edition include commentary by Ang Lee and if yes, does he say anything interesting?
Too bad all movies are not released on DVD as a collectors edition with two versions of the movie. The theater version plus a second version with the deleted scenes put back in place for the full effect. I hate watching deleted scenes in snippets.
The restored version of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World is far better to watch restored to its full length. They didn't put the additional scenes on a bonus disc.
But I would still like to see them! :)
Sorry to repeat my question, but does this Collector's edition include commentary by Ang Lee and if yes, does he say anything interesting?

Sorry, Melissa, Ang remains silent. :-X
It helped ease the pain of his silence by reading the recent East/West interview.
Ang remains silent. :-XI've lost respect for Ang Lee for not doing a commentary, I mean he did one for Hulk. Also for producer James Shamus and Focus films. After all their talk of how much the film meant to them and blah blah blah, and then they throw us a bare-bones DVD.

*Stomps out mumbling about how BBM is just RUINING her budget*
Thanks so much for posting these, Patrick.
There is no chapter list in this release either! Time to make a new one, I guess.PS: "Lucise, I'm Not" but thanks to a tip from LauraGigs, here's a keeper!

8 1/2 is one of my favorites too.
Shamus stated VERY early, around Toronto film fest time, before the first dvd ever came out that there would never be any release of deleted scenes from the movie on any dvd.
I do not believe Ang Lee has anything to say about what is in or out of the dvd---he made the movie, now it is in the hands of the production company and backing company----James Shamus stated VERY early, aroundI'm sure you're right and my anger is misplaced. I was aware that there wouldn't be any deleted scenes and I'm fine with that. My big complaint is the lack of a director or other commentary. I even wouldn't mind a producer and/or screenwriter and/or actor commentary. Just throw us a bone for god's sake!
Toronto film fest time, before the first dvd ever came out that there would never be any release of deleted scenes from the movie on any dvd. So I think if you are going to blame someone---you have to blame the producers--not the director.
