Title: So that's what I need...
Post by: silkncense on August 05, 2006, 07:26:09 pm
Just read the following :

To shrink your derriere - Wear pocketless pants
To hid a tummy - Wear flat-front pants
To balance wide hips - Wear cuffed pants
To slim your thighs - Wear wide leg pants
To make you look taller - Wear pinstriped pants

SO, I need a pair of pinstriped, flat-front, pocketless pants with wide legged cuffs!   ???

Someone once said, "Good clothes open all doors,"

but I have to say a more favorite quote of mine is, "Mistrust all enterprises that require new clothes."
Can anyone name the movie or book that this quote (hint: in written form only) apprears in?

I'll be ever so impressed if you can!

Henry David Thoreau - Walden

...and not rather a new wearer of clothes."  Nice quote, newyearsday.

(as long as there's Google, I can be impressive!  ;) )

I've always been pretty lucky in my life as far as jobs are concerned. I've only had one that required me to "dress up" and it only lasted a couple of years. Whew! I really dislike shopping, especially for clothes and/or shoes.

Hey LJ - if you find those pants, let me know where you got them...

And there's this; in E.M. Forster, A Room With a View, Chapter 12, Mr. Beebe and Freddie Honeychurch are visiting Mr. Emerson and George Emerson in their new rented house in the country:

"Mr. Beebe, look at that," said Freddy in awestruck tones.

On the cornice of the wardrobe, the hand of an amateur had painted this inscription: "Mistrust all enterprises that require new clothes."

"I know. Isn't it jolly? I like that. I'm certain that's the old man's doing."

"How very odd of him!"

"Surely you agree?"

But Freddy was his mother's son and felt that one ought not to go on spoiling the furniture.

Good book and great film!

Except, of course, revelationtees, right?  :)

Interesting! Good call, both of you. I knew the Walden quote, but not the Forster (though Walden's was first, so maybe E.M. copied). Personally, I love enterprises that require new clothes. Gives me an excuse to buy some.

On the same principle, if I never had guests, I'd never clean the house ...

Hee hee.  When Ed comes home and finds a clean house after one of his little trips, he always says, "OK.  Who came over?"

Completely understand.

I have guests coming in Sept, one from Oregon & two from New Zealand.  Trying to decide when I need to clean so I can then call the cleaning people to come & really clean!  Want to do it later than earlier cause my sister-in-law is coming for two weeks in Nov while I am gone.  Don't want to have to call the cleaning people twice (which would require ME to clean twice!)
