Title: Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
Post by: Front-Ranger on May 27, 2017, 10:17:42 am
Hi Brokie friends! What have you got going on this fine weekend?

I have so much and so many to remember. I'm going to get out my photos from the Second Brokeback BBQ in Estes Park, Colorado, and review them. Maybe post some. I'm so glad so many people came!!

Going to a BBQ at 2:00, and I'm bringing dessert.  I went to a local donut shop, and got these.

It's only 19 days to Memorial Day weekend, and the "unofficial" beginning of summer.

While restrictions are easing, I'm hoping that people gathering won't cause a spike in the numbers.

Does anyone have any plans for that weekend?

I have a lot of catching up to do in my yard. If I socialize it will only be with my family and my chickens. I got three on Monday.  :)

I'm at my dad's right now. Tonight we had grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, and brussels sprouts for supper. I'll be returning to my own place tomorrow, and on Monday, Memorial Day proper, I expect to have grilled chicken, potato salad, and baked beans, and maybe ice cream for dessert.

For a postlude at the end of church this morning, the organist played the Navy hymn, "Eternal Father, Strong to Save."

Two days of solid rain.  Didn't bother me, but I'm sure that a lot of people's plans (if they lived in this area, anyway) were wrecked.

Tomorrow it's supposed to be sunny and 70 degrees.

How was everyone's holiday? I was thinking of you all. I didn't have many plans and it's a good thing. I woke  up extra early on Saturday; my heart was beating very fast. An hour later I woke up again with the same problem. I tried to have a normal morning, but after lunch I fell asleep for two hours and was just dragging myself around. I thought myself into the surety that I was in danger of a heart attack, so I drove myself to the ER and had them check it out.

They didn't find anything, so I was released about 6:30 pm. The diagnosis was heart palpitations which could be caused by several things but at the top was anxiety. In the ER, I had a lot of time to think while I was waiting for tests to come back. I feel that I must make some changes within my permaculture  group. It has been getting worse and worse this year. While I was preoccupied with the happy birth and wedding activities I was fine but after those were over, the heartbreak (literally) of this failed group hit me again. I'm of the opinion that the only way the group can survive is if we sever our ties to the bully instructor who's trying to bring us down.

The rest of the holiday was uneventful. I treated myself to some Tom Ka soup from the Thai restaurant, and played with my chickens. I didn't see family but did stay in touch. It was very rainy but I did manage to plant my tomatoes.

Most of the weekend was a literal washout.  We had rain all day Saturday and Sunday.  I didn't have any plans, so I wasn't bothered, but I'm sure a lot of people were upset.

Monday was overcast at first, but by 1:00 the sun came out.  Went to my friends' house for a bbq at about 4:00, was home by 9:00.

I hope it is a happy long weekend for everyone! I'd like to take a break from the incessant yard work but it isn't possible. I'll just try not to overdo it. Today my second oldest grandson helped me with the three yards over at my rental house. We had two weed whackers going and made quite a bit of progress.

Yesterday I was part of a 7-person team who volunteered at a lady's house who was in the hospital with breathing problems. We made good progress there too. We even took down a dead tree. I didn't tell anyone this but I noticed when I arrived there that her garden was in better shape than mine!

Somewhere I have the business card of a guy who helped out a couple of years ago. Why I haven't called him and gotten some relief, I just don't know.

I'm having my own private (unfortunately  :(  ) indoor Memorial Day picnic for supper today here at the house. I'm having shredded (maybe pulled?) pork barbecue, potato salad, and baked lima beans, with fresh strawberries for dessert.

Tomorrow afternoon I need to head back to my own place. Before I do, I'll go by the diner for their half-pound Angus cheeseburger.

I'm going to make some shredded pork myself, in the crockpot.

From what I saw on weather.com, it looks like Monday may be a washout, with rain and thunderstorms most of the day.

Same here, and my high-school friends and I gather at a lake every Memorial Day (and every Labor Day). We're still planning to do it, because a couple of us live close enough to the lake to offer Plan Bs.

The latest forecast I heard for here predicts really bad weather late in the afternoon and into the evening. Rain or no rain, I'm tempted to go our tomorrow and buy some chicken and make over-fried chicken with the recipe on the Bisquick box. It's terribly unhealthy, and I haven't made it ever since I got my George Foreman grill, but it's awfully good.

My mother never made fried chicken; she made the Bisquick recipe.
