There is a major security flaw in a fundamental piece of software that runs on almost every legacy website out there and it is of extreme risk if it does not get patched. Bettermost is definitely one of those legacy sites and it cannot be patched. It will require a complete upgrade. I have examined the logs and there are just 22 active users on the website right now. I have no intention just to shut it down and delete it. It has been several years since we admitted new users because of the massive wave of spam hack attempts, so the community has remained basically private.
I have worked with an AI tool to develop an upgrade plan to try and bring the forum software into the 2020s - it is basically running software from the early 2000s right now. However, some of the side features may not carry over - I do not know yet. While I don't have John available to help me at the moment, I do have capable AI tools that can do a lot of the work I cannot do. I will archive it today so a preserved copy will be kept safe. I will try and keep the site online, but the hack presents such a severe security risk, if a change cannot be finished in the next few days I will need to bring the site down until it can be fixed.
You will probably be reading about the hack in the news very soon now. It is a consequence of AI being able to find new security holes.
Any active moderators need to respond to me in email: [email protected] so I can keep you informed.
