Title: Are you a movie buff?
Post by: saucycobblers on November 13, 2006, 05:49:54 pm
Your Movie Buff Quotient: 98%

You are a movie buff of the most obsessive variety. If a movie exists, chances are that you've seen it.
You're an expert on movie facts and trivia. It's hard to stump you with a question about film.

 :D :D :D

The only one from the list I haven't seen is 'The Princess Bride'!!

The only one on the list I haven't seen (yet) is Magnolia.

You haven't seen The Princess Bride???  Oh, MY.  I listed that as my number one favorite movie for several years (until I saw Casablanca, and then Brokeback).

And talking of Brokeback, WHY OH WHY was it not on the list?? Outrageous!!

I beg to differ!:

Your Movie Buff Quotient: 36%

You're a very typical movie goer. You like movies, but you are by no means a movie buff.
You've seen many of the biggest blockbusters, but you haven't really started digging in to the classics.

I counted only those films I have seen from beginning to end in the theater. That limited my results a bit. Also, few of the titles listed include those I think are the very greatest (Brokeback Mountain being one example).

Yeah, and while we're on the subject... where the hell was 'Saturday Night Fever'??  >:(

Your Movie Buff Quotient: 80%

The list was rather lame.  A rather xenaphobic an unintellectual listing of films in my opinion.... Wouldn't a real movie buff have seen some Bergman, Kurosawa, Tarkovsky, Fellini or Truffaut films?

I'm pist, it didn't have Brokeback Mountain on the list.  And a real movie buff would have seen BBM. It was so talked about that you had to have see it, even if the subject matter was a turn-off, just to see what the big fuss was all about.

I think the list was compiled by pro Crash Academy Members.

MAGNOLIA is a good film.  It definately grows on you.   I've never seen Lord of the Rings and Silence of the Lambs and don't plan on it. I've seen excerpts from both, and the subject matter didn't engage me.

I recently saw Citizen Kane on DVD.  What's the big deal with that film. Interesting camera shots, revolutionary photo angles, great bogus news reel, things of that nature, but I rather Gone With the Wind.

I find it very ethnocentric, too.  No foreign films whatsoever?  WTF?  They at least had the indie bases somewhat covered.  But sex, lies and videotape and all the Coen brothers' films were conspicuously absent.

BTW, The Silence of the Lambs is actually a very good movie.  Excellent drama.  Most of the violence is implied not shown.  Great psychological thriller.

Yes the list was defintely narrow in scope. And a "real" buff would have seen films by everyone you mentioned, plus BBM. (The Coen Bros. did "The Big Lebowski," one of my all-time fave flicks.) The Lord of the Rings trilogy is really worth the trip.  "Silence of the Lambs," was taut with suspense, really excellent.

It's hard to look back at a film like "Citizen Kane," which was created nearly 70 ago and appreciate how revolutionary all the camera shots were as was Truffaut's signature "freeze frame shot." Rather like trying to imagine how excited everyone was about a plane flying from the States to Europe when now men have been to the moon.

I'm surprised I got such a good score.  You guys are right, it's a pretty limited selection.  A more comprehensive list would have found me wanting, I'm sure.  And where was...

"What hump?"  ;D

Ya got me there, Barb. Been too long since I've seen the film. Need to get it on DVD.

Maybe I could get Miracle Max to change my VHS copy to a DVD.  ;D

If it will cause Humperdink "humiliations GALORE," I'm sure he'll be glad to oblige.

"Have you... the wing?" is spoken by The Impressive Clergyman (exactly how he's listed in the credits).

I'm rather ashamed to admit I've only seen Young Frankenstein in its entirety once, and I was very young.  I should really check it out again.  Nonetheless, I remember Marty Feldman, was it, saying this distinctly.

I just happened to catch it this Halloween and was impressed all over again by the dead-on parody of the original mixed in with Mel Brooks's crazy sense of humor.  Great fun!  ;D

You've seen many of the great films, and you have even probably developed an expertise in a few genres.

I'm young! It's not my fault!  :P

The funny part is that most of my friends consider me a movie buff because I've seen more movies than they have.

Oh, and Barb and Jeff: Is this a kissing book?
