Ok I just noticed that when Ennis is in the closet clutching the shirt he mouthes the words "I love you". That made me cry even harder at that part. Anyone else notice?

someone just posted this on TOB and now I am wondering if it is true - could someone who already has the dvd check it out and let us know?  thanks...................................

I'm checking it out now... I will melt away.

I just watched 3 times and actually you can't even see his mouth.  He's holding the shirts against his mouth, and you can hear him breathing the life out of those shirts...sigh.

I doubt Ennis says that or even mouths the words.  He couldn't say it alone in front of the postcards in his own trailer.  It would IMO take away from his repressoin that he doesn't come out of until the Junior getting married scene.

I read that same comment about the "I love you" a while back and kept it in mind when I watched my new DVD last night (it finally came last night, Yeehaw!).  And, my conclusion was that it's just the breathing.  Maybe you could project an "I love you" into the sound of the breathing... but it's a stretch.  Awww, but we know he's saying "I love you" in his heart.

Hey!  I have an idea, maybe we could start a new controversy like the "I"m sorry" second-tent scene debates. Fun! ::) ;D

I just finished my first home DVD viewing, and I've never heard Ennis say anything in that closet scene, in the theater or in the quiet of my living room this evening.

I don't believe he says anything.

Me neither. Nor do I think he has to, in this of all scenes. Ennis may not say much, but he gets his point across.
