Wow, Eric, i really don't want to miss this!!

soooooo, will there be another broadcast at more reasonalble hour for us europeans? If not, i plan to stay up! And if i'll fall asleep at my desk on Tuesday, i'll have to blame you! :P

This is really cool, anyone who has not heard the story being read to them is in for a treat. Now bear in mind it was recorded prior to the movie being released so some of the inflection is a bit different, but the mental images that evolve as it is being read have really been enlightening for me. I encourage everyone to tune in to listen to this.

For our European friends, the show will be re-broadcast at 19:00 UTC/GMT on Tuesday. (That's 8:00pm in Germany and Belgum, and 2:00pm EST/11:00am PST in North America.)

I have this on CD, and I highly recommend it.

Campbell Scott is a sensitive reader.  The only false note is that he pronounces Aguirre to rhyme with "a queer" rather than the "a-gear-y" we're all used to.

YEEHAAW!!

But I'm confused.. Are you sure about the times..? For North America is it 2:00pm/11:00am or 9:00pm/6:00pm? If it's the latter, the European times cannot be right.. Or am I wrong..

It is 9:00pm EST/6:00pm PST Monday night

And 2:00pm EST/11:00am PST on Tuesday.

Thank you Eric. It was truly wonderful. Campbell Scott has a very nice voice. (although he did pronounce 'Aguirre' kinda strange  ???)

Originally published in THE NEW YORKER and then as part of the collection CLOSE RANGE, Annie Proulx's short story packs a punch. Cowboys Jack Twist and Ennis del Mar find love or something like it watching over a herd of sheep one summer on Wyoming's Brokeback Mountain. Their lives diverge and intersect again and again as they simultaneously resist and are drawn into a doomed, impossible romance.

Campbell Scott's clear reading puts Proulx's beautiful and harsh language front and center. The story is mostly straight narration, but there are a few chances for dialogue, and Scott gives the various characters subtle Western shading, with a gentle drawl for Jack and a gravelly growl for Ennis. It's a timeless story that stands up to repeated listening and will stay with listeners long after the broadcast.
