And even if you don't live in Holland, you can still celebrate the day by wearing something orange!! I have my orange shirt pulled out and ready to go! :D
-
I look terrible in orange but I will still wish Queen Beatrix and the people of the Netherlands all the best on this special day

Happy Queen's Day!

ah yes - I bet Melissa is just about to start partying right now... my friend has been over a few years running and loves it... says Amsterdam is like a big Hogmanay street party
its on my list of things to do along with La Tomatina.... hopefully I can do both next year!!

Yeeeeeeh it's our Queen's birthday..... no, it's not, it's our current Queen's mother's birthday! Our current queen's birthday is in the Winter and we don't want outdoor parties in the winter!
Ok, it's a very good reason for a lot of people to get plastered and forget the misery that is their lives... LOL!
Personally, I am not that fond of Koninginnedag, because I have experienced too many drunken fights and people running past me with knives, I like Bevrijdingsdag more, which is on the 5th of May, it is the day we celebrate our liberation from the German occupation in WW2!
Some Koninginnedag pictures...

Well, thanks for this happy tidbit of information! I congratulate our Dutch members on the natal anniversary of their Queen Juliana! She would have been ninety-eight today.
Juliana's maternal grandmother, Queen Emma, is one of my favorite royal personages. And Juliana herself is an especial favorite of a friend of mine. Would anyone be able to post a picture or two of Queen Juliana for this thread?

And here's a picture of Beatrix with her son Willem-Alexander (who is going to be our king in a few years) and his wife Maxima Zoreguietta, and their two daughters! Maxima just gave birth to their THIRD daughter!

Thanks for the photos, Melissa! Your Crown Prince is only two months younger than me; we're both middle-aged men of forty now! :o His consort Maxima is such a beautiful, elegant woman; The Netherlands and Denmark both have been recently graced by such lovely future Queens.
I really like the photograph of Princess Juliana with her grandmother Queen-Mother Emma that can be found at this link:
